No Sleep

So I'm running on about 36 hours no sleep. At that point where you begin to not even be tired anymore. The delusional effects haven't really set in yet, no tracers or shit out of the corner of my vision, but my eyes burn bad. But seriously I could keep fucking going watching the second half of season 3 Battlestar Galactica till 8am.
Recount your experiences with sleep deprivation...

I end up doing this 2 to 3 times a month, starting to wonder if it's going to fuck up my brain royally in the long run. I don't see how it wouldn't.

I know that feeling...Reaching a point where I don't feel as sleepy, almost stimulated in a way, but if I laid down I'd likely slip into sleep quickly. Right around 36 hours is actually where things start getting a little weird for me. Then sometime between 36 and 48 hours is when things become reminiscent of diphenhydramine (low-moderate amounts, 100mg to 200mg) ...Depending on what I'm doing I'll slip into microsleep off & on, and have had moments where dream-like fragments become superimposed over or stitched into "reality".
Longest I've ever been up is only around 2.5 to 3 days if I remember correctly, and I was completely sober the entire time (no nothing) .

I stay up for a full 24 hours once a month, if that . My hours of sleep & my circadian rhythm, in general, is absolutely fucked though . I'm always up really late (or some people's early?) (3am to 4am usually) then wake late morning to around noon-ish. I don't sleep all that long it's just most of my sleep takes place during the day. It's not so bad for most of the year because I still get to feel the sunshine on my skin, but during the days of winter it gets rather ridiculous waking up and only having a bit of sunshine to work with.
I too have definitely thought what a fucked & inconsistent sleep pattern will do in the long run, down the road....

I get bouts of insomnia from time to time. God, I remember when I used to be up for around 3 days out of the week. It's not pleasant.

You'll die from lack of sleep before you die from lack of food or water. Think about that one for a sec.

If I gotta get up in 2 hours and haven't slept, you guys think I'm better off just staying awake or catching 2 hours? I heard u only need one or two sleep cycles which is like 90 minutes to feel relatively refreshed

I'd stay up.
But that's just me. I find it very difficult to sleep only for a few hrs if I've stayed up all night, and need to go to work/whatever in the morning

I'd take the nap. You might feel a little groggy when you wake up, but that little bit of rest can make all the difference. And actually, I find it's really easy to wake up when I'm forced to only catch like 5 hours. I had a 19 hour day today, 20 now. Those couple of 20min breaks where I shut my eyes and snoozed were key.

Yeah I mainly do it to reset my sleeping clock. I'm always up super fucking late and I'll pull an all nighter so I can be tired by 9pm the next day and get up at an early time without trouble.
