Hey all!
just hoping to get some information from some experienced peeps.
I am looking to start a garden that can be quite useful. My wife is very big into avoid pharmaceuticals as much as possible and I'm really into gardening...
Could y'all recommend some good plants to start with for general health and perhaps a bit of fun on the side?
thanks heaps!

You could always start off with a tea garden. Tea is versatile and ingredients can be added as needed; Plant some Camellia sinensis for the antioxidant benefits of green tea, Ilex paraguariensis for yerba mate. You could also start chamomile or wormwood. The thujone in wormwood could provide some of the fun you're looking for, and chamomile is used to help induce sleep.

Aloe is good for sunburn and small cuts, and basically grows itself.
Kratom could be good to grow for the pain relief as well as a nice high
Some people like ginger for upset stomachs, though I can't stand the taste.

cheers guys,
I've got some aloe growing rather well at the moment, it went to flower recently, I've saved the seeds to see if I can get them to germinate.

Marijuana, Cannabis, Pot, Ganja, Herb, Sweet Leaf, Weed, Grass etc. The greatest medicine on the planet, with I believe to be the widest range of medicinal benefits. What it really comes down to is what to do you wanna treat? Any immune system shit could be covered by Echinacea, the Tea plant is very useful, Valerian as well for anxiety. But again, Marijuana, Marijuana Marijuana.
Where do you live? what climate are you working with? Unfortunately, you're prolly pretty aware of all the "fun stuff" that you can grow, be it legal or not.

I live in the Hunter Valley of NSW. It's a pretty temperate climate. Most things will grow here, some better than others, but most things will grow... limiting factors would be the lack of sub zero (Celsius or sub 32F) time in winter. We can get down there but it generally is only overnight that it happens during, winter.
I do not want to cultivate marijuana for several reasons... I often find it growing randomly around my area anyway lol.
I'm pretty new to ethnobotanics and I'm just looking for some useful/interesting plants Tea seems to come up a lot

Yea but just some random cannabis plant growing around is not going to have the same benefits as specialized plants. Regardless, happy growing
