will they be more prone to bacterial contamination Because starches are released, which makes the grains clump together ?

Is it like the whole bag broken like that, or just some grains here and there? If it's the whole bag, don't use it. If it's just a few grains broken it's fine.
When you do things right, it is NOT normal to have a bunch of exploded grains. Especially with rye, you should have 0 exploded grains.

I recently bought some new grain cause my usual trusted rye vendor was AWOL. Sadly the bag contains a small percentage of shelled grain! The results were much worse and more sticky than normal but it just about came out OK but with extra prep time.
One time however a vendor sold me old rye that was all worn out with the inner seed almost totally exposed! I didn't even realize why this was a bad thing at the time I just thought that my rye was a more whiter variety!
The result was an utter disaster (honestly like working with glue) and I ended up throwing it all out and not even attempting to PC it! The next time I ordered from a company I ended up ordering a shit load of this very same rye because the vendor was using a false photo on his web page!
The moral is find a good vendor and stick with him! Rye seems to come in many different shapes and variety's and not all of it is suitable for growing! Yours might be OK, but remember that when the white inner seed comes into contact with water the result is often a soapy kind of glue! Depends how much of your grains broken seeds are exposed really! Too much of this can really ruin and waste a whole day!

The main problem with broken grains is stickiness and grains being too wet and it's only a problem if you have too many.
A few here and there is no biggy.
Gypsum helps keep the grains from getting too sticky.

honestly tho. the main reason your sub will get sticky is if you dont wash and rinse your grain well enough. its a very important step. mind you who cares if all your kernels stick, i will inoculate jars like that as usual and have them colonize just fine, you just need to give em a good beat down for the shake stage ( a stage that can be skipped all together anyhow so not really an issue)

A lot of this stuff just comes down to how a person likes things to be.
I never have to give my jars a good beat down. They break and shake pretty easily.

indeed. like i said, thats only if the grains are really stuck together due to being lazy on your rinse stage.

You'll know after a simple soak or even during the rinse stage if it's suitable or not! Unsuitable grain wont rinse clear, and after the soak especially you will be able to see if it's too sticky or not! Then the task remains to get the grains dry on the outside before loading them up! You just got to get to it yourself buddy, give it a try! Obviously don't use 1000 lbs at once though!

I wouldn't be holding out for a TC, but I can approve of him not necessarily taking advice from people with a reg date of 3 years or less. But I've been here for over 10.
The reason you're not gonna get replies from many vets is because we're tired of dealing with this question.
