Dunking Monotubs?

For MONOTUBS...
What is the proper technique for dunking a Monotub?
-Should the sub be totally submerged in water?
-Is it different for cased and uncased?
-When is the best time to dunk? Right after harvesting or before pinning...?
-I've seen a lot of different soaking times, whats a good ballpark?
And one more if i can..
-Is there a big difference between flowing water and just filling up the tub and soaking it?

best way is to just fill the tub with water till its over the substrate. if your holes make the water flow out use a bath tub or sink with enough water in it. use cold water and leave it to sit for 24 hours.
i would only soak after a big first flush. its always a good idea to lift your bin to feel the weight of it. if it starts to feel light or you see signs of bluing in the mycelium its time for a dunk.
flowing water on the surface of the mycelium will not hydrate it, it needs to be submerged for at least 12 hours to soak up enought water for your next flush.
good luck and pm me if you need any help in the future.

I fill the tub with water until the substrate barely floats. As soon as I see the substrate "bob" like a cork for the first time, I stop filling the substrate with water.

No

I find manure based substrates retain water better than coir based substrates. Therefore, I dunk my manure substrates after the second flush and my coir substrates after the first flush.
You'll have to find what works for you and

is good advice. Check out the middle picture in my sig, RR agrees about the bluing. -I've seen a lot of different soaking times, whats a good ballpark?
I have found anything exceeding 8 hours is excessive, and your substrate tends to get soggy and soppy after too long. I usually try to submerge my substrates between 4 and 6 hours.
And one more if i can..
-Is there a big difference between flowing water and just filling up the tub and soaking it? I have a hole drilled in the bottom so I can drain water from my tubs, and a cork is used to plug the hole. I usually keep the cork in there all through the grow, and don't actually remove it until I'm ready to drain dunk water. If you're planning to submerge the substrate, just a warning that your dunk water will likely be yellow upon dumping and this is normal.
Flowing water makes me nervous because that means I either would have to have it outside (not a real option) or in a sink. Sinks are only located in the kitchen and the bathroom, which are the dirtiest and second dirtiest places in your house, respectively. No thanks.

So you just pour a few quarts or so down the tub until it floats and let it float for ~5 hours? You don't hold or weigh the sub down at all?
You don't take the risk of soaking in a bathtub or sink, do you just bring the water to the tubs and do it there? Then just uncork & drain into a bucket or something?
The pvc pipes, going in on bottom holes on each long side through to the bottom holes on the other side seemed like a simple and effective way if you were going to submerge completely. It seems like it would be more effective to force water in... Or is this overkill and stress it? It would worry me to totally submerge the whole sub; up and over the top surface and everything but I know people do it that way... ?

I fill the tubs until the substrate BARELY moves THE FIRST TIME, and then stop filling. I don't allow my substrate to actually float, it should baarelyy be touching the bottom of the tub. I know the substrate has soaked up a good amount of water when it sits on the bottom and doesn't move at all if I were to slosh the tub, which usually takes about 4-6 hours.
I don't weigh the sub down. This means adding something foreign to your grow area (inside your tub!) and I just avoid this altogether.

I use a pitcher for filling a single tub or two, but if I have several tubs I step up to a bucket. When I'm done filling, I just leave the bucket there and drain into it after the allotted soak time.

I told you how I do it. As you know, people do it differently and you will hae to find what works for you.
Good luck
