Identifying Agaricomycetes my microscopic morphology? Please!
    #19255874 - 12/10/13 03:14 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Can one determine whether or not a sample fungus is of the Agaricomycetes class by microscopy before pinning is evident? I'm still unable to make a determination on whether or not my cultures from a contaminated sample are the ones I intended to isolate. After weeks there is still no visible evidence of mycelial cording on the agar plates. There is no sign of sporing visible to the naked eye(ie. coloration). I'm proceeding to inoculate a more nutritive medium in an attempt to elicit some visible morphology one way or another, but would love an opportunity to save time and reduce the risk of inadvertent cross contamination with other desirable cultures.

I'm simply looking to ensure it is of the Agaricomycetes class. No further identification would be necessary. I do have access to a microscope of 1000x magnification for the next week, and then again after the holidays. I also have access to the re-hydrated tissue of the desirable culture, I'm just not sure if it will be useful. I would, and eventually will, do the academic heavy lifting to answer these types of questions myself. For now I'm in finals for calculus, differentials/linear, and physics, so I'm hoping someone can give me a break. Please.

I thank you in advance and will be forever grateful to anyone who can definitively answer this question, and I look forward to the opportunity to give back to the shroomery community.
