Ice fishing
    #19255610 - 12/10/13 02:13 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Any of you guys or gals ice fish? It's a great time I recommend it. I'm sitting on the ice right now first time this season the ice finally got thick enough. Pretty slow not even a nibble yet but still enjoying just relaxing out here in solitude. Wish I could get at least a few perch or a nice trout for some fee dinner heh.

Oh it is haha. Especially when you are getting nothing and fishing for perch and all the sudden you pull out a massive rainbow. But yeah I sense the sarcasm. Favorite line from the movie ha.

Just dress warm man it's not that bad. It's awesome pulling a fish through a hole in the ice. It's like it's coming out of a portal from another world. Gotta do something in the winter or I'll go nuts. And damn perch fish tacos are delicious. Meet some cool guys on the ice too. Met this old Norwegian guy last season. Taught me some great tricks. Funny guy.

I aint old, but Norwegian.. I like to fish ice alright.. noting else in these waters.... got no problem getting through the ice up here though.. a real bitch to hack through.. freezing to death too... (gets way too cold here)

I think it is fun to walk out on the ice when you havent checked it first... kind of brings some action to the somewhat monotonous activity at times..  what do you use btw? I have seen these led lights come instorem but havent tried them.. I usually use a balancejig.. and some brighly coloured small hooks further down which I have baited with some terrible smelling cheese.. you got any secrets?

I always wanted to try it.  Can I just hack my way through the ice and use regular fishing equipment?

You could yes... depends on what you usually use through... like a spinner would work poorly... but a worm would be good..

Hmm, and it is a bad time of year for digging worms.  Maybe I will experiment with random baits from my kitchen.  Just gotta wait for a cold snap cuz I'm pretty sure the ponds are only a little frozen.

You could use an axe but just go where other people go and use their old holes. I use Swedish pimples with maggots usually sometimes I use perch eyes. A good trick is to put anise on your jig. You can get it at fishing stores. Also glow hooks work well sometimes.

There arent other people around here.., I would reccommend an axe.. do a square.. chop down the sides and go round and round.. the middle will go by it self.. baiting I would reccommend something smelly  and moving if possible..  you got a mCdOnalds nearby?

You could also pick up a decent little hand auger for like $30. They also sell kits wit like a auger, rod, and jigs n shit that will basically get u set up.  Bring some kind of chair and dress very very warm especially ur feet. Theres not much protection from the elements out in the middle of the ice. Being cold will def ruin your day even if ur catching fish.

I used to go ice fishing when I lived in Wisconsin.

Not much opportunities here near San Fran, though.

Nothin like sitting in a little shack out on the ice getting blitzed and maybe catching something on your tip ups!
