Cuttinf BRF cakes in half?
    #19254591 - 12/10/13 10:02 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

I have 4 one-pint BRF cakes that are almost fully colonized. My question is:
Could i cut each of them in half so that they are a half-pint each, or should i leave them as they are? Which would produce a better yield? And if i do cut them, should i do it vertically or horizontally?
My SGFC is big enough to where I can fit everything, whole or halved.

I'd leave 'em be. Larger cakes take longer and are more prone to stall during colonization, but can hold more moisture and likely yield more after you've already gotten through colonzing larger jars, you might as well keep them large.:mushroom2:

If they aren't stalling, leave them alone. No sense in cutting up healthy cakes.

every time I cut one in half they contamed where I cut it. With a flamed knife at that. Leave it. You'll get more flushes out of it.

Peace,

well i usually dont cut them with, more or less i tear the cake apart. that eliminates the contam vector of the knife.
