Hey all.
I know in California (and other parts of the US) Eucalyptus sp are considered a weed but here in Aus, they are iconic and for me symbolise the majesty and unique beauty of this country.
So... here are some various species for your enjoyment.
E. diversicolor "Karri" tallest flowering (and hardwood) plant in the world.

E. woodwardii "Lemon-flowered gum"

E. marginata "Jarrah" honey from these floweres is one of only 2 that do not "candy" without the need to heat treat.

E. pauciflora "Snowgum" These trees can withstand temps to -20C (-4F) their flowers are snow white, yet they are named for their habitat.

and finally E. deglupta or "Rainbow Gum" This is the only eucalypt native to the Northern Hemisphere and 1 of 9 that are not native to Australia

Call me un-Australian but honestly, I just do not like gum trees. They're fucking everywhere, they're bland and unpleasant to look at. I prefer pines.
I'm moving to Canada

The one gum tree that's actually interesting isn't even bloody native.
Someone should paint all our shitty trees and make them better.

Thanks for sharing this.
I live in California where eucalyptus trees are known for making a huge mess, dropping branches on parked cars, and catching on fire. (They certainly don't have the best reputation. )
I grew up loving the smell of their oily leaves.

I remember my first time meeting eucalyptus. Pulled over north of San Fran and got out and smelled the air and took a couple branches.
I found this link I guess a while back someone planted a bunch of them and sold the land promising in 10 years they could harvest the timber. I guess it caught on, and after 8 years they figured out that they have been planting blue gum trees that aren't viable for the timber industry

You took a couple of branches, really?
You really need that shit?
I look out my window and they daunt my happiness like fucking Edgar Allen Poe.
When I'm hiking I piss on them when I have nowhere else to piss because I don't want to ruin a perfectly nice patch of DIRT

I think the problem with the importing of the eucalypts for timber was that they need to be quite old. Like closer to 50 or something... before you can even think to use them. Their wood is amazing!
These trees live for hundreds and hundreds of years. I know the Karris can live for over 600.
They are quite sturdy and actually produce a lot of leaf litter to encourage bushfires because that's how a lot of them regenerate.
It is sad they have caused a lot of damage in the US with fires. Similar to cane toads here in Aus.
I can't help but feel a great sense of pride for our firefighters on the world stage. They tackle massive bushfires every year but for them that is just Australia.

Put some weed in a bag with whole eucalyptus leaves and let the oil go into the weed. Suddenly, you have eucalyptus flavored weed. Happened by accident this summer, then I fell in love with the taste of weed and eucalyptus together.

Yesterday I cleaned my driveway, picked up all the sticks and crap, raked, blew the leaves into giant piles and shovelled them into the bin.
I wake up today and there's fucking bark EVERYWHERE. It's literally all over the front yard, all over the driveway, hanging over the fence, in the garden, hanging out of trees and shit.
The stupid giant fucking eucalyptus tree just shed it's bark all over my fucking life.
What the fuck, tree?
I hate them.
