thought i'd share :)
    #19251612 - 12/09/13 06:10 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

just thought i would share my finds from yesterday and today. all of these were found on 1 old soccer field and 1 little observatory lawn.
this was yesterday, during the rain.
this was today, after 4 straight days and nights of rain.
Agaricus campestris is what i believe them to be... thank you everyone for tolerating me and even helping me, ALOT, despite the aggravation im sure i cause  happy holidays and happy hunting!

Nice haul art, that's alot of Agaricus! Have you tried them yet?

And, as a sidenote: I happen to enjoy your posts! I haven't noticed any aggravation or behavior that has to be "tolerated".

a product of the shroomery  we've had a freak monsoon the past 4 days in a row lol....thats the only reason i found em now. im lucky i remembered that the college down the road from me has a few old soccer and baseball fields....LOADED with them!! i could've brought another 5 people with me and everyone would have gone home with just as many! i read this Agaricus sp. has been known to cause "white-outs" in fields!! i can totally believe it and wish i could really see one!

Winner! do something quick... I find that campestris tends to go bad pretty quick... Probably why they aren't sold in stores :frown:

Those were some great finds.  One more quesiton, in order to make a spore print do you have to use a fresh wet mushroom or can I use one I've dried?

Spore prints are best done with fresh mushrooms. You could try with a dried specimen but I'm not sure if you'll have much joy.

Thank you much  no, I think its too cold for these...I think the only reason I found these are it had been raining for almost four days straight so I think that was just a random flush I got lucky enough to stumble upon!

Andrews right on. You don't really want them wet, but definitely the fresher the better...once they have matured and dropped their spores, their wont be enough left for a good print.... actually, I think I read somewhere about someone putting a drop or two of water on the cap of a dry mushroom then printing it with a glass or something over top of it, to keep the moisture in....dunno if that's true or not tho.

Mushrooms keep making new spores to replace the ones they've dropped, pretty much until they rot.

The reason for the drop of water is that, for basidiomycetes, spore discharge only works in a humid environment.
