New grower need help choosing substrate bags.

Hey Shroomery! So I don't have access to a pressure cooker and I honestly don't feel like going through all of the trouble of sterilizing my own bags. I tried growing mushrooms before using a syringe and sterilized grow bag I purchased without a self healing injector plug and all 3 bags grew beautiful mycelium for about 2 weeks and then got this green vein that completely took over and killed them. I am now considering purchasing a bag with a self healing plug to avoid contamination. I found a source selling 2 lb bags for $11.00. I feel like that is a rip off but if it is what it takes for me to not get a contaminated batch then I will go for it. I understand asking for sources is against the rules so I am not asking for a better place to buy bags, I want to know if I'm headed in the right direction or if I should reconsider my strategy.
Thanks!

the reason I advise against pre-sterilized grow bags is because you dont know how or who sterilized it. if youre gonna half ass anything in this hobby youre gonna get half ass results, not trying to be mean here just sayin.
save up some cash get a pc, grains, and a spore syringe and go to town.
i doubt the self healing injector port caused contamination, im sure it was the person you dont know that sterilized your bags fault.
if you did it yourself you would be able to learn from your mistakes and what went wrong and why.

Ur going to be paying alot for quality spawn bags but I would use out grow. Or the link is my sig is to HMC that makes a pimp compost for sub but is pasteurized
I think what ur looking for is spawn bags. I would goto outgrow for them. They have a quality product and a good customer service I would use there ore sterilized rye to spawn the HMC compost for a nice grow.
If what ur looking for is "bulk substrate" bags then I would do the HMC compost. There shit is the best in the biz n they have a sale right now.
But no matter who u buy from buy from a SPONSOR!

Well, as I get more into this hobby I'm sure I'll be purchasing a PC and more tek but honestly I have never tasted any of these kinds of mushrooms before and it is simply an experiment I would like to try. Currently getting a whole pc setup is very inconvenient for me, I understand it looks as though I am half assing it and to an extend I'm sure your right but we have to start somewhere! Before I invest so much money and time into this I would like one successful grow and experience under my belt, after that, I'm sure the sky will be the limit!

Isn't high contam risk the reason many people don't like LC. It very well could've been the syringe instead of the substrate. Either way, 2 bags for $11, I would personally recommend you save that money and try to find a decent pressure cooker on CL. The presto 23 qt can be found for $80 brand new, I'll bet if you live in a big enough area you can find that or another one second hand for a good price. I suppose another problem could be how much you injected into the bags, too much LC can also cause too much moisture, obviously leading to contam.
Have you looked into the pf tek? That's usually a good starting point too

While I personally agree with Twistedty, I understand what you're saying. Several of our sponsors provide grain bags of an excellent quality. Several people have had success with Mad Seasons' WBS bags for various projects.

Wow thanks for all the feedback everyone! Basically I'm fairly sure I will contaminate them in some way if I don't have a self healing injector port.

Although it sucks to hear all of this I should probably get my head out of my ass and listen to everyone... What would be a good small starting setup to look for?

well if youre strapped for cash i guess its an ok option. but thats if they are sterilized to order, like i said you dont know who made the bags or how long theyve been sitting around etc you cant diagnose the failure.
brf would be the best starting point and cheapest.
if you got cash get a pc, quart jars, spore syringe, and some bird seed
