Old agar (need to hear from the pros lol)
    #19251033 - 12/09/13 04:22 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

I have had these isolate agar plates colonized sitting in my fridge forever till I am ready to jump back on the hamster wheel

It's prob been since like January lol
I have one of those high tech fridges that will stay at exactly 34f even with doors opening n whatnot
U think that I can still salvage them?
Strain is pe if that matters

I would use these to spawn some rgs agar dishes then prob 3 transfers then to rgs jars then to rgs bags.....
What do we think?

If the cultures do not show any bruising I would say they should be fine...bruising is a sign of damaged cells.

Only one real way to find out tho....make a few transfers....

I say yes. open them up in front of flowhood or inside your sab. add alittle sterilized water to rehydrate the agar. wait few days for fresh growth. then carry on. take a small sample to a dish and save the culture for  future, if it proves to be a good performer...good luck, and have fun with it...

Yea ok that's what I thought. Just didn't wanna waste dishes n have to isolate from spores..
The agar has not bruised but them seem yellow maybe bacteria I can isolate away from?
Also maybe a little dry. Not curled up but I figure new agar will provide enough moisture
Ill upload pics in a few

n ill be using a SAB

I would make at least one transfer to a new plate.

Just to make sure it's not contaminated and to see if it will continue growing.

lol, iv,e done this before too. I always found the agar dried out, just what I did to jumpstart the mycelium  into active growth again. should do fine on new agar then, if it still looks good.

New topic... I just moved n I have to go from a full grow room to growing in a bed room being used as storage. In an old dusty gross moldy house that's a challenge In itself
B4 I moved in I bleached the entire house floor to ceilings n painted. a plus is there is hard wood floors in the whole house. Other then that I'm looking for the most efficient way to grow super bulk like stacking bins on top of bins or doing 2 green houses that's ill modify to not need trays but by Turning each shelve itself into long trays.  Then I can plumb them together into fogger
Maybe even 3 green houses. I wanna use a full 50lb bag of rgs for this grow n just case it n not spawn to bulk so I don't have to pasteurize all that shit n to save innoc-to-harvest time
Or maybe spawn half to bulk to do a little experiment to see how much that extra 10 days n bothersome pasteurizing actually helps.

Lots of decisions

I'm in the same situation.

I put down a piece of cheep linoleum because it's easy to clean and I don't have to worry as much about damaging the nicely refinished wood floors.

I use monotubs stacked on top of each other. Well, I used to before I scaled back.

I put 2 pieces of 2x12 edge to edge and elevated off the floor about 12 inches. I stacked my tubs on top of this 4 high and 6 long.

I had a shelving unit I put my spawn jars on.

These days, since I scaled back, I use a shelving unit for tubs and another for jars.

I really just use 1 shelf for jars and the other unit uses 2 shelves for tubs.

I have tube lights on top of the tub unit and can easily fit 2 tubs per shelf.

I really only have about 2-4 tubs going at a time any more.

The rest of the shelves are either empty or used for storage.

So, in a nutshell, monotubs and shelving units are an efficient use of space. A lot of people just stack the tubs on the floor.

I work 40-50 hours a week and really don't have time to do more than I do right now.

Oh, and I have a SGFC in the kitchen for testing isolates.

They should be fine. I had a couple of plates that spent about a year in the fridge and they transferred fine. I would wager they could survive even longer. Hell I found a plate in the closet that apparently never made it to the fridge and has been well over a year at this point and I've been wondering if its still alive in there.

thanks guys i really gotta get back into this shit. its been over a month still havent gotten to it.

i just read ur idea and came up with what i think could be an ingenious idea!
since i hate the idea of using trays inside of a GH because i feel like so much space is wasted...

take one of those big shelving units from homedepot and whatnot using acrylic sheets to cover the back sides and top and each shelve and on the front make like a 3in slat on the bottom and to hold the sub in and put doors of clear acrylic from one 3in slat to the next. it would be the same idea as 4-6 tubs stacked but it would be an easily mobile and neat looking shelving unit GH but with holes drilled in with polyfill and each shelve would also have its own different hunidity

its hard to explain but i think im gonna make one and show u guys with pics and whatnot.
i think its revolutionary.... lol

in my head right now it sounds like gold maybe ill draw somthing up to show bcuz it might not make too much sense right now.

Fuck I got an old ass house,  2 dogs, fucking mice running around etc. If ya got clean spawn, and just using coir verm for your sub, pasteurization is optional IMO.

I let coir and verm sit at +180f for 4+ hours after pasty's possible discovery that coir and verm cannot be ruined.  I basically dumped boiling water into a trash bag in a small cooler with a brick of coir and 2 qt verm.  Thermometer said well over 170 after 4 hours, so I pulled the bag out and waited for it to get to room temp, and then to mixing with spawn.

Have had no troubles with first flush other than my liner sucks and pulled back from 4 out of 5 sides...that will teach me from using cheap liners in the future.  Gravity kept the last side in place fyi.

I cannot say that this is best, but I have no trouble keeping coir and verm sterile and expecting flushes....I certainly will be repeating the process in the future.  Pasteurize to ensure no issues, but if you decide to do something "odd" don't blame me....>I've been drinking.
