Getting ready to start

Hi Folks.
I am going to try growing my own mushrooms. I have tried and successfully grown out a couple of ready made boxes of Cubensis but want to try other mushooms and am going to be following Damion5050's Coir Tek
I have so far got a bucket and a couple of Coir bricks, that's all!
I will need my hand held through this so if some very patient and tolerant folk here would be so kind I have a few questions:
1) Can you recommend a reasonably easy strain to grow that is something akin to Liberty Caps? I find that there is a very distinct difference between them and the two different Cubensis I have tried, (Golden Teacher and I forget the other!), and the liberty Caps.
2) Can you recommend a spawn seller that ships to Ireland and the UK?
3) Damion5050 uses a mono tub, I take it it is just a plastic tub with holes cut in it? If so what size do I need?
4) 5 Quarts of Spawn is required, is that 5.6 litres of mushroom spawn? That seems a lot considering they are sold in syringes!!
5) Step 14 is "After the 10 days you need to check on the tub if it is 100% colonized then you need to put it into fruiting. I do this by taking off the duct tape and stuffing the holes with polyfill, then introduce light and FAE." Can someone translate that into n00be speak? I don't understand it.
Sorry to be so dumb in this but I like to get a full understanding before I jump into anything. My experiences with mushrooms only really started this year and I have found them to be so damn positive I would like to really branch out and grow my own.
Thanks very much for any/all help.

Two problems I have with that:
1) I don't have a 'kettle', (is that some sort of pressure cooker?
2) It looks a lot more complicated than Damion5050's way of preparing things, if I am reading it right it seems easy to fuck the whole thing up going over 170F whereas the other way i pour in water and let sit.
What exactly are the advantages with Franks Tek 3.0?
Thanks

1. It's a big pot....you don't have a big pot?
2. It is more complicated...but all you have to do is monitor the core temp of the substrate....
The bucket tek will work for most people 90% of the time.....and it will fail the rest of the time, making you wish you had properly pasteurized.
Properly pasteurizing bulk substrate material is good practice, throwing boiling water in a bucket is not.
The bucket tek is closer to partial sterilization than pasteurization....

you can use a big stock pot as well dollar general has em for like 10 bux
i have used the bucket tek with success its not instant failure per say but i have had TONS of failure with it as well as success. and if you only have one batch why risk it.
the difference is you just need a cheap meat thermometer and baby sit your jars a lil bit. but you will have a much higher success rate using PROPER pasteurization.
the extra time you put in it will pay off in the long run.

So if I'm right, I fill my stuff into jars, put them in a big saucepan and simmer?
Do I then follow the instructions about mixing spawn, etc from Damion5050?

its more like a hot bath, you heat water to 180ish degrees kill the heat let the substrate core in jars/bags heat to 140-160 (takes bout 15-30mins) start timer for 60-90mins and maintain that temp of your core substrate throughout the cycle (140-160). you may have to turn your heat on and off again to maintain said temps
then yes mix your colonized spawn in with the substrate after it has cooled down.

You heat the water till boiling.....just monitor the core temp of the substrate....the water temp does not matter.
You want the core to stay between 140F and 170F for 60 to 90 minutes.....

OK, thanks I'm with you so far, (just about ).
SO I go and mix up some Coir and vermiculite that has been hydrated. I then put this in jars, (will ordinary coffee jars that have been properly cleaned be OK?).
I then place them in the pot and follow the above instructions.
So to continue with the spoon feeding, what do I do from there.
Thanks for the patience guys.

you pastuerize when your cakes/grains are fully colonized its the last step to spawning besides mixing spawn/sub. just make sure you shut off your heat at 180 water temp. your jar temps at the time the water hits 180 will only be around 100ish degrees but they will catch up to temp in 20mins or so

There is no reason to do this....we do not monitor the water temp, just the internal core temp of the substrate....that is all that matters.
I turn my heat completely off when the core reaches 145F and it creeps up a little to about 160ish and holds.....the water is well above 180F at this point....

i use my mirro and my presto. i shall try your technique tonight, i do notice sometimes i have to turn the heat back on sometimes to hold it at target temps.
thx bro

I end up truning my heat back on after about 45 minutes but very low....everybodies technique will differ slightly because we are all using different stoves with different fire settings....but I try to use the minimal amount of heat to get the water boiling....if that made any type of sense...lol.
