You should look up what species occur in your area, what they look like, and where they grow.  You could of known this was not active at:

there are several threads on the shroomery that list all of the actives that grow in a given region

I do want to point out that list is way out of date. Here in Virginia in 2011 I believe it was tropical storm Irene that brought what feels like over 100 new species to VA. Not all of them will survive, but trust me, the ecosystem was changed.

i have never thought of the fact that a tropical storm could do such a thing, is it caused by the sudden change in climate? or mass distribution of spores from other places? maybe a change in the landscape?

oh for sure it was just the winds picking up the spores and shooting them waaaaaayyyyy off into the distance, hah.

Here's an article before the storm hit, giving some details as to why it would be such that a hurricane can spread spores:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/27/hurricane-irene-mushrooms_n_938423.html

Also, I don't have one on hand, but after the storm hit you would find articles saying "before of identity theft!" in regards to look-a-like mushrooms being present since the storm did spore transporting job.

*puts on curmudgeon hat*

that link has a 'dr.' who says:
"The moisture, humidity, the wind and the temperature during hurricanes is the perfect climate for mushrooms," he told HuffPost Weird News. "Also, both hurricanes and mushroom growth are associated with new or full moons, so there may be a lunar element as well."

i really love 'experts' opinions in articles like this.  it just shows that you really have to read critically.  I'm pretty sure the moon theory is debunked.

oh and the part about getting the psychedelic ones checked by experts before consumption.

what, and no link to the shroomery?  poorly researched net drivel

LOL. It must be true if a naturopath said so.

that's quite a nice find! it almost looks like some Pan. Cyans are growing next to the cubensis too!

Almost does, but those are Panaeolus papilionaceus.

Very nice photos indeed.
