I am going to try growing my own mushrooms. I have tried and successfully grown out a couple of ready made boxes of Cubensis but want to try other mushooms and am going to be following Damion5050's Coir Tek
I have so far got a bucket and a couple of Coir bricks, that's all!
I will need my hand held through this so if some very patient and tolerant folk here would be so kind I have a few questions:
1) Can you recommend a reasonably easy strain to grow that is something akin to Liberty Caps? I find that there is a very distinct difference between them and the two different Cubensis I have tried, (Golden Teacher and I forget the other!), and the liberty Caps.
2) Can you recommend a spawn seller that ships to Ireland and the UK?
3) Damion5050 uses a mono tub, I take it it is just a plastic tub with holes cut in it? If so what size do I need?
4) 5 Quarts of Spawn is required, is that 5.6 litres of mushroom spawn? That seems a lot considering they are sold in syringes!!
5) Step 14 is "After the 10 days you need to check on the tub if it is 100% colonized then you need to put it into fruiting. I do this by taking off the duct tape and stuffing the holes with polyfill, then introduce light and FAE." Can someone translate that into n00be speak? I don't understand it.
Sorry to be so dumb in this but I like to get a full understanding before I jump into anything. My experiences with mushrooms only really started this year and I have found them to be so damn positive I would like to really branch out and grow my own.
Thanks very much for any/all help.
1. A cubensis is a cubensis if your doing a multispore inoculation it really doesn't matter what strain you use . I would suggest Cambodians though
3.heres a monotub tek monotub tek
4.you are confusing spawn with spore. spores are used to create spawn

i really like my oven roaster set the temp at 160F and forget about it until my digital thermometer goes off, then it has a timer that i set for 60 minutes. temps are always perfect never go above 162F i can actually set it up go sleep or whatever and the alarm wakes me up. i know this isn't what was being asked just wanted to chime in.

you inoculate grains with the spore syringe to create spawn, or try the pf tek. i would recommend the pf tek to start... but if you wanna do bulk you need to read A LOT MORE than the bucket tek

Thanks for the link to the video, that made me look on youtube! Can't believe I didn't think of it! . There are a load of videos, can anyone recommend one?
I find it really difficult to learn this sort of stuff from reading. I prefer to learn from working with someone, (this isn't a hobby I am able/willing to share with anyone in real life for the obvious reasons!) or watching something.

I would raise the water level with the substrate, if it's not already....cannot tell from that angle.

I understand that a cube is a cube, that's why I would like to do a different type of mushroom. I've had two types of cube and they felt the same, would like something more like Liberty Caps, but not too difficult to grow if possible.
