Starting to hate my boss 2

I cook for a hotel and always liked my boss until recently. He always was a chill guy who you could joke with and have no worries about offending. He's taught me quite a bit and I'm better than ever at what I do because of him, but as of recently I'm starting to get really annoyed with the guy. We are understaffed. Including him, there are 5 of us to cook for the entire hotel. One of them only does breakfast, one of them has only closed once and pretty much just does breakfast, lunch & prep work, one of them refuses to do breakfast and just does lunch & dinner, and then there's the executive chef who just does breakfast & parties.
Then there's me. I'm the only one who can do anything there from opening to closing.
We recently had someone quit on us so me and the one other guy who closes have been taking over a lot of hours for her lately. The executive chef (my boss) has done nothing to help out with the loss of the girl who quit. He still just does breakfast and parties and tries to get out of work ASAP. It's starting to get really fucking irritating... Especially when we're fully booked, it's snowing or freezing out and I have an entire hotel to cook for 100% on my own. I'm going to lose my mind here soon. The other guy who does night shifts has been talking about wanting to quit recently, and I've been thinking about doing the same. If either of us quit, the other one is pretty much bound to quit. If we quit, the executive chef is going to snap and either this entire restaurant is going to go to shit, or he's going to go insane or both... But I can't do this much longer. I just put in a resume a little bit ago for a place that's about to open up and already got a call back from them. Got an interview right after work tomorrow and I'm 100% excited.
I can't wait to give a big fuck this place speech. I do entirely too much for entirely too little. I originally felt really lucky to get the job as I'm on probation with a felony and this is a big corporate hotel... But fuck it. I'm about done... And I'm excited as fuck. The place I'm looking at is going to be brand new, working with all organic & fresh, local farm to table food and really healthy and awesome stuff.

Just thought I'd share my excitement with you folks.

My girlfriend works at best western, a lot of hotels are like that. A lot of places are like that today in general. I can say with confidence most people today would be on the street with bruises and no job 60 years ago. People don't know how to work as a team to make everyone's life easier these days, only thinking of how to improve theirs. Hard labour teaches this lesson. I worked in a stone quarry 3.5 years. It's all about team work wherever you are, and it sounds like everyone else is comfy on your bench.

How about you simply talk to your boss, tell him that you guys are overworked and need some extra staff otherwise he's going to lose some people because of this situation.
If he has a brain, he'll add 2 + 2 togather and realize that he needs someone because he can't afford to lose anyone.
It's the nice, polite and helpful way to do this. Sometimes its just a matter of the boss assuming theirs no problem because nobody talked to him about it.
Communication you know

He's well aware we're understaffed. I'm starting to get sick of the hours too and this new place that's about to open up just simply looks and sounds awesome. If the interview tomorrow goes well, I'm done. Plus, I don't get payed enough to work my ass off as much as I have been for the last 7-8 months here.

I was with you until you got to the brain part. I have my doubts on whether or not the boss is equipped for the job at hand.

Oh well in that case, tell the other guy to quit on the same day as you. Trash the kitchen and let the boss freak out.

Quitting alone is going to be a big enough of a blow to the place already. I'm gonna feel bad for the others who work there.... But not for my boss.

lol mutiny
yeah i think instead of giving a fuck this place speech, you should probably leave on a more positive note pointing out that he should be more considerate as to his employees if he really values keeping them around. he might be aware that you guys are a bit understaffed but that doesn't necessarily mean he's aware of the strain it puts on all of you, especially if he's only in and out and none of you care to bring it up to him
not saying you shouldn't quit if it's not working for you, but it would probably be good for not only him but his future employees to leave on good terms. and if the new job falls through it'd probably leave the door open to working back there again
good vibes on the new organic healthy job stuff either way though

That's the restaurant industry for you, complete and utter shit. Manual labor work is much more amicable to me, for a day job.
