Secret Santa Gifts
    #19250088 - 12/09/13 01:15 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Alright Pub
Need some ideas on what to get a good friend of mine for a secret santa
Hes a craft beer kinda guy and loves his beers. I was going to get some rare IPAs for him but my insider info has led me at a dead end, since he has a cupboard filled with specific beers and what not.

So my question is What gift could i give a beer lover thats not beer. He has an assortment of glasses already as well.
50$+/- is my limit.

i guarantee if he's a microbrew fan he will not be upset with more beer no matter how much beer he already has.

If there are any microbreweries in your area a growler from that place would be good. At the microbreweries in my town a new growler costs like $30 bucks, and refills are $12-$15. You end up saving like 20% on beer. Thats what my mom got me for christmas last year, and I have been pleased with it.

Which region do you live in? I'm an avid beer-lover too and may be able to help.

One thing with IPAs and double/imperial IPAs is that they are meant to be drank as fresh as possible. You may have noticed Stone's "Enjoy By" at the store-

These are a guarantee. The Enjoy By date is 30 days past brewing, and they make the date obvious so stores will take them off the shelves timely. Anything within the first month of being brewed will be much more flavorful. Most breweries use a "bottled on" date, but some use a "best/enjoy by date"
http://freshbeeronly.com/The_Fresh_Beer_List.html

Anything stout, or scotch ales, or barleywines will age wonderfully, and therefore you don't need to worry about age as much.

But yea, what region of the US are you in? Tons of region-specific IPAs and great beers in general.

Oh man, you got a lot of options there :tongue2: lucky bastard
Anything Stone, Green Flash, Ballast Point, AleSmith, Firestone Walker.. :drooling: Can't go wrong. Just remember to check the dates on those IPAs

Glasses are always fun too. Even the funny novelty shapes like this can-shaped one

You'd have to order that one though  No Founders (brewery that makes that glass) in Cali AFAIK

No problem! I like that glass too  It's on my Christmas list actually :tongue2:

I'm sure you'll find something great at the store  The employees will be able to tell you which IPAs are fresh.

You can't go wrong with a fresh IPA, it's something he'll get to enjoy that night rather than something that he's gonna want to stow away.

Get him a bottle of some "Heady Topper," rated #1 on Beer Advocate this year:

Not gonna find that around SoCal bud  That's a Vermont only beer. He could find some fresh Pliny the Elder, which I'm sure is in the top 5, though. He's probably already had whatever beer the OP gets him  but a fresh IPA is ensured a great beer that OP's friend will appreciate. Because if you aren't a craft drinker, you probably don't know about the importance of freshness with these very hop-forward beers.

And you're not buying Heady online, it's pretty much only available for trading. And beer trading is expensive
