Z-Strain WBS Monotub grow.
    #19226224 - 12/04/13 11:32 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Alright so after some time of doing pf tek i moved to mini bulk grow and everything went well now im moving on to bigger and better.

yesterday started my journey of the monotub.

Will update daily and help is appreciated.

Sorry for crappy pics only got a cell phone camera

12/3/13
i just got done simmering the wbs and loaded it into the pc

12/4/13

Today i knocked up my jars and shook VIGOROUSLY. i got incubating above my fridge in some cabinets.

Will be back tommorrow with updates doubt there will be any but still.

12/5/13

Update: nothing yet want expecting it.

12/6/13

Update: still nothing but noticing condensation on the inside of a few of my jars so I think I should see some signs of colonization soon  correct me if im wrong please.

12/16/13 kinda fell away from this page but im back.
5 out if 6 jars are showing mycelium and one way better then the rest so im gonna mke it into a g2g jar

12/18/13. Well today I shook up 4 out of the 5 colonozing jars and man I got to say that mycelium is STRONG like its crazy.

Jars/bags/tubs/trays should colonize @ room temperature getting ambient/indirect light.

Main pinning triggers are full colonization, FAE and Evaporation off of the substrate.

Light is a secondary pinning trigger. For tropical species temperature is not a pinning factor.

P. Cubensis are a tropical species. You could colonize at 70F and fruit at 80F with great results.

Light has been proven beneficial during all stages of mycellium growth. Mushrooms like mammals have a circadian rhythm.

You want ambient/indirect light(on a 12/12 schedule preferably) for colonization and consolidation.

You want direct/intense 6500K light on a 12/12 schedule for fruiting.

Optimal temps are mid 70s throughout the whole grow, but anywhere from 65F-80F is acceptable.

Incubation is outdated/uneeded unless temps in the range stated above cannot be kept.

The inside of the jar is always a few degrees warmer than the outside because the mycellium produces heat..mycellium tends to stall at temps above 86F , and contams thrive.

Fruiting at cooler temps tends to produce denser, meatier fruits, while fruiting at higher temps will often produce hollow, less dense stems.

Mycelium should be exposed to ambient room light from day of inoculation as has been known for many years.  Light is not a pinning trigger until after full colonization and an increase in air is given, and even then it's a secondary pinning trigger.

Will keeping the jars in the dark hurt the mycelium or slow down growth?

It will not hurt the mycellium, but it's sure not doing them any good.

Some people say it helps speed up colonization times, some people say it makes little difference.....I have not really tested it because I always colonize in 12/12 ambient light

colonizing in the dark works fine, gioving them light is benificial though, i prefer not to shake after i inoculate and i always remove the foil:wink:

I've noticed a great difference when colonizing w/out light vs. light.
Yup, take the foil off.
Don't shake after inoculation with MS.

okay well i have already shaken so its a little late for that and the tin foil in now removed. Should i shake at 30% colonization?

Yes, always shake at 30% unless it's a G2G, since it's been shaken already after inoculated.
We don't recommend shaking after MS inoculation,
because it disperses the spores throughout the jar making it harder for them to "find" each other.

Better with light

did u use MS sryinge ?
cause we dont shake the jars with MS syringe,
we shake it with LC
u want the spores to be close to each other,
rather then all around the place,
this way it speeds up the germination

u can shake it when its around 20% colonized
