Cancer treatment with mushrooms?

Sorry if this post is not in the place it belongs.
My best friend told me last night that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is only 36 years old. I am completely devastated by this news and I want to do anything I can to help him. I have heard that there have been successes in cancer treatment with the use of medicinal mushrooms.
Would anybody be able to share information on how this can be accomplished? Any information at all will be greatly appreciated. I tried to use the search function, but it is a bit disorienting for me atm as I have been dealing with a life threatening condition myself this week.
Some questions I have:
What kind of mushrooms are used in this kind of treatment?
How can the treatment be applied? Is it taken orally, topically, IV, ect...?
What would be the most effective way to extract the cancer treating compounds?
Can it be used at the same time as other types of treatments such as chemo without causing other problems?
Are any of the mushrooms used in the treatment dangerous to mix with other types of mushrooms in certain dosages?
As stated before, any information at all will be greatly appreciated.

I suggest this quick to read and very informative book Healing Mushrooms, plus it is free.
Medicinal mushrooms are generally taken orally via supplement, tea, or tincture. Medicinal mushrooms are astoundingly safe to take, you can mix all the medicinal mushrooms you want. Many have used medicinal mushrooms in conjunction with chemo.

I would recommend growing out some reishi (ganoderma lucidum) for him, or ordering some reishi supplements.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15067330
If you need a reishi culture / bag / jar / mycelium for him to start out i can help with that. (also forrester may be able to help, he has lots of knowledge on rieshi).
If you are ordering, i would recommend tinctures / capsules, if you are growing, I would recommend doing a double extraction yourself to make sure it is a quality product. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18845747
Mixing types is always beneficial, each fungi has different nutrients available compared to others.

Reishi- A lot of studies have been done on it. It's a recognized cancer treatment in Japan. I either make tea or grind it up. Alcohol extraction is another form. I believe the dean of sciences I know that did a published paper on reishi/cancer said that water extraction (boiling) was the best. I'm actually trying to get her to send me the paper she had published for someone else...check out turkey tails, maitake and lions mane too.

I remarked to a doctor friend of mine a while back that turkey tail (Trametes versicolor) has been proven effective against breast cancer. And he said "so prostate cancer too." He went on to say that most medicines (pharmies) effective against breast cancer have shown some efficacy against prostate cancer and vice versa. Turkey tail as a treatment for breast cancer has been immortalized by a Paul Stamets TED talk- check out that talk- somebody link if y'all have the time- and consider a similar regimen as a reasonable avenue to explore.

On the subject of what can be done, Tinctures, IMO are the best way of deriving the beneficial medicinal qualities from the mushroom. In that light, I am providing a link to a list of threads discussing them.
Forrester has a good TEK that is listed in his signature for making double extracts, which I consider to be far superior to boiling the mushrooms and making a simple tea.
Your friend would also do well to secure a reasonably priced source for continuous supply of fresh Shiitake and make a habit of eating them every day. Advise your friend that all mushrooms should be well cooked in order to sufficiently break-down the cell walls for maximum medicinal benefit.

Mrs Rabbit has benefited more from high THC pot than all the medicinal mushrooms I've fed her for the last ten years. We've known for some time that CBD is a cancer suppressor but our experimentation shows THC is as well, based on CAT scan results. A well balanced regimen is called for, but don't look just at mushrooms, rather the total picture. RR

Not to mention the consciousness expansion of thc helping people to see their problems and habits in a new light(from a new angle), giving them power to make wiser choices. Also it helps in fighting the anxiety and depression, which also improves healing; depression and anxiety have been shown to decrease healing potential. But as stated, the best is to work from all angles, all fronts; not just one.

Ok so it looks like Forrester's tek is the way to go for the extraction.
I had known about the CBD being able to reduce tumors, but I was completely unaware of THC also being capable of doing so. I did try making him some edibles last night because he has had such a low appetite lately. I am having to assume this is more from the depression rather than the actual cancer. He flat out refused though because he only has 6 more years in the reserves before he gets his retirement.
I cannot force him since it is his life, but there is a possibility that he might refuse any kind of treatment. He just doesn't seem to care that he has it at this point. With the way his life has been the past few years, I could see this being a problem.
It seems like the marijuana would be the highest benefit to him right now, even if it is just to get his appetite and his mood up enough to consider treatment. I have been trying to get him to do light exercises too but he is pretty lazy and wont to it without somebody doing it with him. Unfortunately, my health has taken such a sharp decline over the past few weeks, I couldn't jog to my living room.
Thank you so much for the information and advice everybody. It gives me a good start on things that might help him. I think once my own health is back in order I can take more time to research this in-depth.
