Alright, so... Why are you an addict?

And don't give me that answer that you started and now you can't quit...
So what is it?
Depression? Trauma? Sex abuse? Bipolar? Daddy issues? Self esteem problems? Hatred towards yourself?
Tell Dr. Patlal what's wrong.
Most people either never try drugs or try it and leave it behind. You decided to come back. Why?
So which is it?

Not everyone who repeats a pattern is addicted. I don't do drugs, I trip out. I honestly feel there's is a qualitative difference. I used to do oxys, meth, mdma, pretty much anything I could get my hands on. Those were drugs. Now I trip out every now and then and it all started with Salvia. I trip atleast once a month, entheogens only. I do so because it puts me in touch with parts of me normally unreachable. I've always been the curious sort, tripping is a quest for knowledge. A unending quest we all know of infinite reward. If I am addicted, it's to knowledge. Tripping tells me more about myself and the world around me, while giving me a glimpse of what we miss every day.

Boredom, winter darkness, makes sitting around indoors more enjoyable. It's a habit though, not an addiction.

Because life is a lie, and seeing everyone else believe the lie fills my soul with more and more hatred each day. Addiction is the only way to make the pain stop, to make the bad voices go silent.

Break the habit today and stop. You'll quickly understand that it's an addiction

Possibly boredom of being sober? Not really sure. The drug I take is also easy as hell for me to get and I never have to do any dramatic actions to get it. I just have it and have it for cheap and large amounts. Hard to put something down when it is as accessible as bread.

Why should I pursue sobriety? What does it offer that drugs cannot provide? I like my habits (shrooms and weed) and will keep them.

1, 3, 5 & 7.
Was hard to admit to myself but it took a lot of thinking and diving deep through traumatic memories. The irony is I didn't even realise until I became an addict and attempted to address the root cause of this behavioral pattern that I realised what exactly it was I was repressing.
Still working through it now. Poison of choice is ketamine and it has been for the last 3 years. My ex (drugs ruined our relationship for the both of us) is worse than me and has just had an intervention.. We still very much love each other, so we're gonna try and work through this together.. she's been forcibly removed and taken back to her parents, I'm still balls deep in the shit but I think I can do it if I've got her with me going through the same thing. Strangely she has the same root issues as I do (something I never realised at first), but a much harder time admitting it.
The hardest part is the antidepressive / dissociative / numbing effect k has. After about 3 days of sobriety life gets pretty shit.. Again I never made the connection until recently, but I've basically been self medicating with a potent antidepressant. It's not a physical addiction, but more of a mental compulsion. Something I never understood until it happened to me and pretty much all of my inner circle of friends.

I use to be addicted to pharms. Benzos & opiates in particular. I quit just about all drugs actually in rehab, but I went back to certain ones for certain reasons. I only take psychedelics and certain herbs these days due to all the benefits that come of them. Psychedelics have been some of the most beneficial things towards bettering myself and my life as a whole. They are not just drugs... Psychedelics are much more than getting high and I hope to never turn my back on them.

That's such shallow logic. Choosing to pursue something and being addicted are two different things. I could stop having sex, but why? To prove what point? An addiction is when you want to stop and can't. Or when your habits are getting to the point that you take on more costs than benefits.
Anyways, depression led me to drugs. Happiness kept me here.
