Pictures of mushrooms.

I have seen a picture of this one somewhere but can't find it. Neat mushroom though. Any ideas?

I found two of these along a logging road. When picked they were bright white.Being in the icebox has turned them a goldish color. The gills are grey. Some type of Agaricus I think. Doing a spore print now. No smell at all that I can tell. Very big though.

I can't see enough in the first photo to have any idea what it is. Does it have gills? Tubes? Teeth? It does look weird in that photo, though.

The other, giant one is definitely an Agaricus. The spore print should come out a dark chocolate brown. Try cutting it in half vertically and scraping the inside with your knife edge to bruise it. The color changes can take up to an hour, but you should watch for the first couple minutes. To detect odor better, try crushing the base of the stem with your fingers. There are 3 main odors for Agaricus - almondy (sweet), phenolic (metallic, library paste, ink), and mild (little or none). If the mushroom bruises yellow, it generally will not be mild in odor. The main possibility then is that it's phenolic - a lot of people seem to be unable to detect the phenolic odor in Agaricus. If you're unable to detect a definite almondy (sweet) odor, then you should consider them poisonous (probably closely related to Agaricus xanthodermus).

Happy mushrooming!

There is yellow bruising on on the veil. I thought it might have been spores but looking at it better it is bright yellow bruising. I am having a hard time getting a spore print off it and the smell is mild, not metallic. Not a strong enough smell to say what it could be but not offensive in any way.
As for the first mushroom the gills were dark reddish-brown. cap was a shade lighter than the gills and very wavy.the stem was grey-brown very wide. I no longer have this one so I can't get any more info from it.

This was the other pic I have of it. About the same but shows the gills a bit more.

That first one is probably a Cortinarius of some sort. A stocky overall stature and reddish brown gills certainly suggests that.

If you've never smelled one of the Xanthodermati, then it's entirely posible that you're one of those people who can't smell them. The Agaricus species that have a mild odor are primarily either non-bruising, red bruising, or brown bruising. The yellow bruisers usually have an odor. The somewhat squared-off appearance of the cap is also often suggestive of Agaricus xanthodermus.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks as always for your information ToxicMan. You are a great person to have around here! I will look into the Cortinarius. They are pretty neat looking and I would like to find some more for pics.
