so its my first time inoculating. I PC'd my brf cakes last night, gonna pull them out in a couple hours to inoculate them, and i have a question about transferring my sterile jars into my lab.
I have my steroclave is in my kitchen, which is a living room plus a hall walk away from my sterile flow hood lab room... how do you suggest i bring my jars into my lab, should i just open my steroclave in my kitchen and walk them back to my lab, turn on the flow hood and return in a hour to work, or just pick up the steroclave and walk that back to my room, wipe the clave down run the flow hood for a hour and then open them while the room is in ready and working order?
thanks for the help

Run the hood for an hour or 2, then carry the jars to the hood.
Remove the foil and keep it off, do not put it back on.
Wipe the jars with 70% alcohol and place in front of the hood.
You should have sanitized gloves on when doing this.....

so are you suggesting, turn on the hoods, wait an hour +, shower, throw on scrubs, then go from my shower in my scrubs back to the kitchen, and carry everything back to my lab and begin work?
I feel like all the work of cleaning my self off in the shower goes out the window if I have to walk through my entire house and gather whatever contaminations and drag them back to my clean lab.
but im the one posing the question, so tell me whatever you think is best

I never shower before I work......I just wear gloves and tyvek sleeves sprayed down with 70% alcohol......And I have a pretty good success rate in my SAB.
All that matters is the immediate work area......and what will be in the sterile air flow.

Most people don't even have autoclaves when starting off with the PF Tek method, let alone flow hoods.. The top layer or dry verm also acts as a barrier against contamination on top of the tinfoil.. I think your going to be ok

You take tinfoil off after you take the jars out of the pot or whatever your using. It's only used to keep the water from the pot that's dripping from the lid out of the substrate.

You have a flow hood and an autoclave! And your doing pf tek??? Shit man, this might be your first ride but ya just filled up that Ferrari with diesel All kidding aside I personally feel that the reason most noobs are encouraged to start with pf tek is because most of them don't wanna spring for the cost of a PC If you ain't doing agar and grains in two months something is wrong

I realize this.. I was only stating that he has two layers of barriers before he gets to his flow hood before inoculation.

thanks for all the encouragement... Im first timing with the pf tek because I am trying to just do baby steps... Im going for grain the next go around. Besides following RR "lets Grow..." DVD im attempting to follow basic instructions a friend has hand written for me, which suggested starting with the mere basics and working my way up. Thank you all for all the help. Light and Blessings...

Gotcha, that makes sense now.
