Storing fully colonized BRF cakes
    #19247111 - 12/08/13 08:40 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I have about 10 brf jars that will be fully colonized and consolidated in about a week.  Problem is, I will be going out of town for about 8 days thereafter.  So I will need to store these cakes either before or after the first flush.  Is there any way to store these cakes for about 8 days without them fruiting?

i see alot of people having this problem here... honestly your best bet is to do a monotub.. that way while your gone your cakes would be colonizing coir/verm. instead of attempting to stall your jars.

franks coir/verm tek
franks proper pasteurization tek

agreed with above. I used to store them in the frig in a zip lock bangin. then blended in sterile water and g2g to wbs jars. then off to bulk after colonization....

Silverstem has a really really good idea on what you should do, and i second his thoughts.  During my first grow I left to Poland & Amsterdam for a couple weeks so I just left my jars to consolidate while I was gone.  I could of easily done the monotub which would of been perfect but honestly didn't think about it.

You could just let them consolidate longer, and birth them when you'll be able to give them the attention they need.

That sounds like an excellent way to grow mold.

if you wait 7 days after full consolidation you will most likely have pins.. and when you birth the cake the change in the environment could cause those pins to abort..

I have 4 jars in the fridge right now in a zip-lock freezer bag waiting for Thursday to come.

I doubt that. Some of the biggest fruits I got the few times I did cakes were from invitro pins. Also there are several TC's who advocate that the 7 day consolidation is more of a minimum rather than ideal. Shit this is the second time I have posted this in the last day.

No.  The one week consolidation period is a bare minimum.  Two weeks are better.  The mycelium won't 'consume' the nutrients during that time, but will rather 'absorb' them, giving a better eventual flush.  If you need to store them longer than two to three weeks, use the refrigerator.

They would still need FAE, to start pinning. I have jars on their second week of consolidation, and are looking very nice. The only jar I have this batch that is pinning invitro is the one I flipped, because it stalled.
