I followed the video guide for the PF tek. In the video the SAB had two large holes in it so that you can fit your arms through while you're injecting the spores into the substrate.

I noticed you had smaller FC holes drilled in your SAB. If you're going to use that to knock up your jars, you should tape up the holes dude. Just keep the two larger holes for your arms, the rest of the holes could let in dust and anything else you don't want in there.
Good luck man!!

What should I do then?.... And why is it that when I follow the video verbatim, I'm doing it wrong?

the SAB is for knocking up your jars, that has only two large holes, the FC is where you put your cakes when they're fully colonized, on top of 4 or 5 inches or so of perlite, that has all the little holes. You can't combine them, one defeats the purpose of the other.
Not to pick on you, but when i saw that pic, i had a good little chuckle to myself
you can save it by taping up the holes, or just go buy a new one...for the cost of a roll of tape, you can get a sterilite(sp) at walmart for about 6 or 7 bucks. Buy 2, make one kind of "box" with each one, then you're off like a whores drawers.

Fuck ups are the root of all knowledge bro. Just keep on truckin' you'll be fine.
That one you have now will be ok to knock up your jars, but don't fruit in there. Get a new one, and follow the SGFC tek to a T, you'll have a lot less to worry about if you do. Just keep reading and use the search function if you don't know something. There's a lot of horseshit on here, but the more you read, the more things will surface as legit info. "Lets grow mushrooms" has all the answers....check it out and watch carefully. RogerRabbit has a link in his sig if you want the videos, very inexpensive and as far as growing tools go, it's the best dollar you'll spend. You can also just look them up, but hey, that's not support now is it?
Also, i must stress, do not skimp on cleanliness, be as clean as possible when you knock up your jars...no shortcuts or substitutions, they'll get you all kinds of fucked up, then you'll have to star over.....sorry to be so long winded, buddy's on the Schooner tonight

It has been a week since I knocked up my jars, and at first I was nervous because I didn't think there was any growth. I just shut off the light in my room and examined the jars with a bright flash light, and I can see a small amount of mycellium growing throughout the jars. It is a pretty small amount, but you can really see it in any nooks and crannies in the substrate.

stop picking up your jars... its bad for them. the verm layer on top can get displaced and contams will form. leave it be and go play outside in the snow or something.. or go and invent something. idk man keep yourself busy those jars need exactly 0% attention at this point.

When noc'ing up from a spore syringe it can take a while for the first signs of growth. It's always hard for me not to constantly check on my little babies Even though I know I should just let them sit.

It's fine to wipe it with alcohol BEFORE you flame sterilize if you like. But flame sterilizing is the only thing that gets it completely sterile so don't touch it after that.

Well 7 out of my eleven jars have been colonizing progressively. The 7th just popped up yesterday, too, so I'm hoping that the rest might wake up.

I pretty much forgot about this thread for a while and I'm sure everyone else has. Regardless, I would like to give an update. This is still my first attempt and the pinning is going well. I would like to thank everyone on this website, I have learned so much during this experiment.

There are only 5 cakes, and my largest one has no visible pins on it yet, though I can spot where they will probably come in at.
