importance of colinozation

I ahve a casing and i was wondering how important is it for the mycelium to colonize thru the verm.

if the layer is real thick then yes it really needs to colonize through it but not entirely. although i've never done this, if you had a thin casing layer you might be able to get away with fruiting it after maybe a day of colonization. my opinion is one point of casing is to ensure an even pinset, and fruiting it without seeing how it is colonizing is risky but doable.

One of the main reasons that full colonisation is
wanted, is the fact that contaminations find it a lot
harder to get a foothold on other mycelium than they
do on a bare surface. Also full colonisation is a
factor in even flushes :-)
