City versus Suburbs.....
    #19246609 - 12/08/13 06:53 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Which do you prefer given the choice?

I think I've kind of grown out of the city and am more into chill isolated areas, preferably where there things happen though.... I haven't lived in the city or next to it for a while now but I don't think I would want to get a place there either.    The city has a lot to do but I'm not into the crowdedness of it and all that.

The country is the place to be. Nobody bothers you, people are nice, parties are a hell of a lot better. The burbs are next best choice  and the city sucks dick.

I don't think I could ever live in a big city, just too much going on and too many unhappy/rude people everywhere.

A few miles out of town is where I like to be.

I live in the suburbs, but I'd much rather live in the country. I have zero interest in living downtown, not a fan of crowds.

I was raised in a small town, I lived downtown for university and now I'm in the suburbs.

I had the most fun when I was downtown, but I guess I like them all equally.

I'd rather live close to the city so I can have both.  I hated living in the boonies, there isn't enough shit to do nor music to go see.

Cities are super expensive. In just about every category. The only way to enjoy yourself is to spend oodles of cash. Mostly on taxes and transportation.

at least drugs are usually cheep and plentiful. And you can find a edm show just about every week.

to clarify im only speaking of Chicago and my experience in it.

I'm sure some cities are much more pocket friendly.

What?  That makes literally no sense.  When you are downtown any big city there is usually fantastic public transit including a subway system - you don't even need to own a car.  How do you figure that you spend a lot on transportation?

Suburbs blow.  All the disadvantages of the country with none of the advantages of the city.

Downtown FTW.

suburbs suck
cities suck
people suck

i get almost sick driving around the suburbs with the big $300k kit homes that look like they jumped straaight out of a fucking catalogue, all look the same and are ridiculously closed together jammed in with huge drive in-drive out round driveways with water features and huge grand double doors but with like .001 square meters of actual lawns so it just looks fucking ridiculous and all these cloned out yuppie wankers driving jeeps and cheap bmw's thinking the're living the high life when they're stuck in a sad perpetual loop of middle class mediocrity

This, plus: all the disadvantages of the city with none of the advantages of the city.

Suburbs are basically a conglomeration of everything wrong with both the city and the country. Fuck'em.

Me? I prefer a legit wilderness to be walking distance from my home--but I enjoy having friends living in downtown city cores, so I can visit them occasionally to get my fix of urbanity.

It's significantly cheaper than Toronto transit.  Certainly a LOT cheaper than driving a car.

100$ for a month of public transit access is expensive? The TTC fares is 3$, and the monthly pass is 130$--and it's still a better deal than owning your own vehicle.

Man, I don't even own a vehicle and I know that insurance for a month alone would top that... then consider gas, parking, general maintenance--public transit is cheap when compared to the alternatives.

The only way you are gonna get cheaper is to start walking or biking.

You're zeroed on the transit. But unless rides on the rollercoasters we call trains is your day of fun in the city, the rest will begin to add up.

Nobody ever argued that living in the city is cheaper.  I was countering the poster who claimed that transportation was more expensive in the city than out of it.

Also keep in mind that incomes tend to be higher in cities as well.  There are simply more opportunities.

don't mean to nit pick but it was a package deal.

I agree its cheaper then a car in the burbs. But I have a feeling it levels itself out.
