You'll most likely need health permit from your county environmental health department too.

Health permit? For what?

If you are cultivating edibles you should have no problem at the farmers market. What else I recommend is that you start making some contacts with Chefs at Hi scale eateries. Chef's know whats up. so they are usually interested in getting hooked up. Asian Markets is another good place to hit up.

if you're doing it out of your apartment or something, maybe. probably not if you're in an agricultural zone.

If you're in California you will need a Certified Producer's Certificate to sell at Farmers Market.

Nor here, raw agricultural goods are fair game
Long as you're not processing.

Same here. All I needed was a $20 business licence for the farmers market. I even looked into getting a processing licence so I could dry and package. It would have required a basic sanitation setup and $55.

Here in California you need a simple inspection by county environmental health to make sure you are handling and storing food correctly even if it is a raw agricultural product. It isn't too expensive and is a requirement for my local markets.

hey, this sounds a lot (as in exactly the same) as what I want to do. I am curious as to what varieties you will be growing and if there is much of a market.
I feel like I've spent so much time learning to grow mushrooms, that it would be a waste to not put said skills to use.

Sorry, but a business license in washington costs me 80 dollars for state license and another 60 for the city license. You might want to check to make sure your 20 dollar business license is legit. We both live in washington.

In ohio you don't even need a business license to sell fresh unprocessed mushrooms. But like Forrester I someday want to sell dehydrated. They must of realized in Washington, being one of the bigger states for mushrooms, that they were missing out on their claim to your wallets :/

In washington you could sell them without a business license, but not at some farmers markets (my local one requires a business license).
I think what foxfire was thinking is there's a standard business license fee of 60 dollars, then there is processing fees of 20 dollars, but on top of that, the style of business (in this case agriculture) also requires a separate endorsement. Maybe that endorsement costs 20 dollars. For retail license (what my business is) there is no endorsement fee.

The catch here is you are required to have liability insurance at just about every farmers market. But at least that offers some advantage to you and looks good in the eyes of the buyer.
