Just letting him know he doesn't need it for what he is trying to accomplish. After throwing down 100$ for a dissatisfying kit (sorry op) I sure as hell wouldn't want to bust out another hundred.
But if he does decide to get serious, and get into grains and agar then sure why not get a PC. It will be necessary with time!

Totally. There's no sense in getting a PC for your first grow. A water bath canner (essentially a very large pot with a rack designed to hold canning jars) is perfectly fine. A PC will end up being a very expensive paper weight for someone who did one grow and decided the hobby wasn't for them.

^^ thanks those videos helped.
I ended up scoring 36 1/2 (250ml) pint wide mouth canning jars for $10.00 CAD & a 50-ish quart bag of verm for $22.00 CAD, aswell as a 5-lb bag of BRF for $6.00 CAD.
I think now I have what's nessessary, however, im not going to be using a PC for this first run. I'm planning on making 36 cakes, and having multiple tubs going, for a decent yield (I hope)
Instead of PC im using a very large "lobster pot". I can fit approx 12 jars sidr by side in this, elevated of course.

Definitely not worth $100, but if that is, in fact, manure... which looks like it has straw mixed into it, it could be a good substrate, and if you have a PC, all of this stuff is usable. I'm not sure if you're interested in using agar, but if you are, you can use those petri dishes to isolate a strain... If I were you, I'd make some WBS jars or Rye Grain jars (Look for teks on here, it is very simple) and get some spawn started... You can spawn to that manure and get some very nice boombers!
Those spore syringes look very dark, you are lucky for that. I recently received some very light syringes, with only a few specs of spores in them, but they also worked. Best of luck man... just read up on how to use what you have. The round disks-like containers are petri dishes, the grain appears to be Rye, and it appears you have some sort of compost or manure, for a bulk substrate. All useable stuff.

truth, syringe, pc, and some grains. boom all of a sudden youre doing bulk/agar work/sterilizing equipment , for about 100-120bux
could be even cheaper if you find pc on craigslist or thrifstores etc

You can always spawn a few cakes to the manure too! Just make sure you properly pasteurize first. I've read people getting nice yields off of doing that.
Also great deal on the 1/2 pint jars.

If you really wanna do it cheap and easy... I'll tell you how I did it when I was a 17 year old kid who just wanted some boomers!... You can buy a premade brf bag that is pasteurized and everything from one of the sponsors... inject the spores, put in a warm dark place.. leave it for a few weeks, til it fully colonizes... give it some good light and BOOM! you're rollin... no hassle, no worries... set and forget... simple as pie, and very cheap...
What you have purchased is more... raw ingredients for a knowledgeable person to play with... but you can certainly become knowledgeable about what you're playing with by reading on this website.. I have found the most efficient way for me to search these forums is to go to google, type in my search, and then put 'shroomery' at the end... it works better than the search here... for me, anyway.. lol

Well, long story short, I picked up my first (and last) mushroom growing kit from a local smoke shop. The reasoning behind my posting is because it was terribly packaged, and nothing (yes nothing whatsoever) was labeled. Nor did it come with a tek. If I had to bet on it, I'd say it resembles a fifth graders science project, give or take. lol.
If anyone could kindly point out what the two bags of brown-ish soil?? bags are, thatd be great! also, what the seeds are. I picked up some brown rice flour (I didnt see it nessessary to post a picture of that), and if an expert or well-knowledgeable user could tell me - is this all that is needed to start making cakes? (with the BRF aswell of course). And if it is, could someone link me to a recommened tek in respect to the equipment/materials I am posting pictures of?
Thanks. Pics are above because im posting from my phone sorry for my noob-ish-ness. <3
is the clothespin part of the kit?

I think it was used to "gauge" the size of the petri dish?

That kit is one big fart. You'd do better, and learn more on your own. As most stated: PF Tek; the most expensive item is your time.

Dang! I'm a noob and even I know you totally got ripped off. Without counting my spore syringes, I spent under $40 for everything. Plastic totes were more expensive than the jars.
