Synthetic hallucinogen blamed in Roane County woman's death Federal authorities given access to husband, chemist's Facebook accounts
by Travis Crum Staff writer
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Roane County woman died after taking two doses of a synthetic hallucinogenic drug that her husband bought for her thinking it was LSD, according to an affidavit filed in federal court this week.
Todd Anthony Honaker, 35, of Left Hand, was charged with first-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance in the March 1 death of his wife, Renee. Honaker told police he and his wife each took two hits of LSD before she started convulsing and died. Honaker told police he bought the drug from 32-year-old Chad Michael Renzelman, a chemist at a nuclear power plant in Kennewick, Wash. Renzelman allegedly mailed the drug to Honaker inside an anniversary card with instructions to hold it under his tongue for 30 minutes, likening its effects to "flying."
However, authorities believe Renzelman mailed Honaker an experimental hallucinogen instead of LSD, according to an affidavit for a search warrant filed Wednesday by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Barry Parsons.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Dwane Tinsley granted a search warrant that day. Renee Honaker's autopsy revealed she had died from abusing a synthetic hallucinogen known as 25b-NBOMe, according to the affidavit. DEA chemists say 25b-NBOMe is both structurally and pharmacologically similar to 2C-B, which is a Schedule I hallucinogenic controlled substance.
"At this point investigators no longer considered this case to involve LSD," Parsons wrote in the affidavit.
As a result of the investigation into Honaker's death, authorities with the DEA officially added 25b-NBOMe to the federal register as a Schedule I hallucinogenic.
Parsons filed Wednesday's affidavit to gain access to Renzelman and Honaker's Facebook accounts from the company's headquarters in California. Honaker told investigators that he chatted with Renzelman on Facebook before receiving the drug from him.
On March 1, Todd Honaker called 911 and said his wife had possibly been poisoned. Paramedics found Renee Honaker unresponsive on her living room floor. Police said Todd Honaker was found lying on his bed, r
Honaker said his wife began convulsing about 30 minutes after taking two doses of the drug, according to the affidavit. Before calling for help, Honaker put the remaining doses back inside the envelope, placed it in the trash and took the trash bag to the end of his driveway, according to the statement by police.
DEA chemists analyzed the remaining doses found inside Honaker's trash can and determined the drug was made with 25b-NBOMe, according to the affidavit. The doses came on blotter paper with a picture of a dancing panda bear.
Police in Washington executed a search warrant at Renzelman's home and allegedly found 150 jars of hallucinogenic mushrooms, eight containers of unknown liquids, blotter paper with dancing pandas and blotter paper soaked in an unknown liquid. He was charged with delivery of controlled substance and extradited to West Virginia in March. Analysis of similar papers found inside Renzelman's home in Washington are still pending, the affidavit states.
Renzelman has a history of manufacturing controlled substances, according to the affidavit. In September 2008,12/8/13 The Charleston Gazette - Police Blotter www.wvgazette.com/News/policeblotter/201312050087?display=print 2/2 while working on a post-graduate degree in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California, Renzelman was arrested for making homemade beer laced with morphine. According to the investigation, he extracted opium from poppy seeds and then converted the opium to morphine. He completed a pretrial diversion program to avoid conviction.
On Nov. 25, while on bond from the drug charges, he was arrested for allegedly creating a disturbance on an Amtrak train in LaCrosse, Wis., the affidavit states. Renzelman was allegedly carrying synthetic marijuana and appeared to be under the influence of a behavior-altering substance. Honaker remained in Central Regional Jail without bail on Thursday.

So he was sent the powder and had to put it on blotter? Technically, if it was LSD, he shouldn't have been making that blotter strong enough to kill someone with 25B-NBOMe.

Sometimes I wonder if some of these news articles are made up simply to demonize a new chemical and get it made illegal

Dancing Panda Bear eh? This is a tragic story but that's pretty funny. Those were most likely the marching/dancing GD bears. 25b has been going around on them at least since this previous summer. My friends ate a couple of those.
Rest in peace. No one deserves to go out like that.

But if it's not made up, perhaps some chemicals should be cautioned against?

Imagine her poor husband... He just wanted to trip with his wife, and is now being held partially culpable for her death.

This thread was moved from Other Drugs Discussion.
Reason: Better suited here. It's crazy the husband is being charged with first degree murder.

I don't even see how that charge could stick--I don't see a case for showing he deliberately killed her by giving her the doses, especially considering that he took the same doses himself.
Manslaughter, maybe--but first degree? Even second degree? Naahhhhh--dem pigs probably threw the book at him with this 1st degree murder charge and applied pressure to get him to roll over on his supplier.

It's disgusting the way they do that. It's bad enough he has to deal with the death of his wife, but for them to throw on a murder charge as well is ridiculous.

2 hits? really? even if the blotter was saturated, what is that, like 2000 mcg? unless it was layed on some really big, thick blotter and they just didnt know the difference. Pretty scary stuff, it sounds like the LD50 of the 25x family is pretty damn low considering. I have some of it on blotter and want to give it a shot, but articles like this worry me.

it seems to be the 5mg range ppl start having problems with 25i-nbome so its probably in that ballpark for b. you can easily fit 2.5mg per blotter on a regular 1/4 in x 1/4 inch sheet, and you can also easily fit more than intended (3mg for example).. even if you are a super careful nuclear chemist.
and shame on you chad for laying lethally strong blotters and having the audacity to bring down the LSD name with it. if she never died this story woulda just been another about how big and bad LSD is and its being dealt at a school near you. i remember when she first died and they said it was LSD that killed her in the news.

His wife dying is punishment enough for the poor guy. He ate the doses with her so how in the hell are they charging him with first degree murder? Do the authorities believe this was supposed to be a murder-suicide via blotter? I hope his lawyer tosses out the bullshit charges somehow.

It's a common tactic actually--throw a bunch of charges down that don't stand a chance should they ever reach the courts.
But they don't, and they were never meant to--the purpose of these unprosecutable charges is to make the person charged start sweating and reel them in for a sweet and simple plea deal--often involving rolling over on their sources.
"Hey man, look... your facing 15 years in federal "ass-slammin" penitentiary for what you did. Talk to me buddy, let me help you out. I know you didn't mean for this to happen, and I can probably convince them to reduce your charges--but you have to help me first."

If the community policed itself and people didn't sell shitty lethal research chemicals as if they were the comparatively safe brand name dose the cops would have never been called and this guys wife wouldn't be dead right now.
Even if this story is fake it could easily happen. hotspots when laying blotter go reasonably unnoticed.
nbombs and dox and the dragonflys can kill at recreational doses.
which inevitably leads heightened response from the authorities.
at least bromodragonfly was too dangerous to catch on and dox aren't really sold as lsd anymore. maybe nbombs will lose marketshare eventually soon, and maybe them being illegal will help that cause.
long live good ol lsd.

I doubt tthe guy who sent it said, "here try this LSD.'
Maybe I'm just defending him beccause he had 150 jars of hallucinogenic mushrooms. whatever that means.. spawn probably

Okay, people who are fucking around with this stuff. Last call to WAKE THE FUCK UP. This guy was supposedly a CHEMIST:
Quote:
he bought the drug from 32-year-old Chad Michael Renzelman, a chemist at a nuclear power plant in Kennewick, Wash
So if an actual goddamned chemist can't get this right, what makes you imagine that you mere drug-enthusiast, are going to be able to continue laying blotter with these shitty, toxic chemicals without eventually laying a batch that is going to fucking kill somebody? Keep doing this long enough, and I'm pretty certain odds are not in your favor.
Enjoy your So-called Life Sentence, tweenieboppers and morons...
But hey, what do I know? I could be wrong, and who knows... maybe like.... maybe it's all just like propaganda, man?
Quote:
danlennon3 said: Sometimes I wonder if some of these news articles are made up simply to demonize a new chemical and get it made illegal:-/
Really, danlennon? I've enjoyed your posts here for years. But that statement was just downright ignorant. There is plenty of proof in the media that this shit is not only dangerous, but deadly. But there are also tons of anecdotal reports from users. A study.... like a real scientific one not sponsored by the media or the police, has indicated neurotoxicity. Its creator has indicated that it's not a safe drug for consumption. But nobody wants to goddamned listen. You're all burying your goddamned heads, in the goddamned sand, because you want to keep buying / selling / taking your cheap, toxic goddamned drugs.
This shit is fucking up my faith in the "psychedelic community." I liked to think that psyochonauts were more considerate and compassionate than, say, fucking smack dealers but that's turning out to not be true.
You're not enlightened, or searching for enlightenment, or trying to inspire it in others. You're looking to make a quick buck, and looking for a quick high. Regardless of whether it's harmful to yourself and others. No, there's nothing wrong with wanting to get paid, and IMO there's really nothing wrong with looking for an easy buzz. But don't try to pretend you're more than that. And there is something wrong with it when it comes at a cost of harm to others. That's very much not okay. In fact, you people selling this shit are WORSE than smack dealers. At least heroin dealers are selling an honest product, to people who generally know what they hell they're getting into. You people are selling death and brain damage and passing it off as enlightenment.
And passing it off as LSD, which is one of the (physically) safest drugs out there. Like selling someone a "pot brownie" except there's no pot in it, but rather heroin. Clearly, anyone with half a brain could see that is wrong, and dangerous. Why can't they see that the same is true of this?
And I hope this piece of shit so-called chemist gets a life fucking sentence. No, I don't agree with the war on drugs. But this was not a simple drug sale, it was dangerous and irresponsible FRAUD. This drug was sold as "LSD." So this piece of shit deserves every single second of prison rape he gets for the rest of his sorry fucking life. A woman is dead now because of his greedy lies.
He's also responsible for potentially ruining the husband's life, too. That man thought he was giving his wife LSD. And if that were true, she'd probably still be alive, and he would not be facing charges. That's two lives ruined, because of some greedy piece of shit. What does being a chemist at a nuclear plant not pay enough? Sounds like it should. Either way...

I have heard that a couple/few mg can fit on a standard piece of blotter. And I think your speculation is on the right track. But I don't think it's just a low LD50. I think for whatever reason (currently unknown) this stuff affects some people way, way more strongly than others.
I would not take this garbage if you paid me. And I mean paid well. I value my brain and I've probably already put it through enough. You only get one. Not to mention the fact that you could be one of the lucky winners of the shit lottery, and suddenly find out you're in that unfortunate percentage that has an abreaction..

See... I have heard quite a number of people claim that they've taken several mg or more at once, with no ill effects. I have also heard of cases where a person took a single hit, in a group setting where everyone else too the same dose or more, and then ended up dying. Maybe that's due to severely mis-laid blotter, or solution. But given that some have claimed to take huge doses of this stuff... I'm not sure that's the case. Could be interactions with other meds, or could be something weird due to personal biochemistry. That's part of what makes this so scary and dangerous right now. We don't fucking know.

I don't see why anyone would take more than 2 mg of any 25x.... Even with 25c, 1 mg was pretty strong, and 25b apparently has much higher intrinsic activity than 25c and perhaps 25i.
