White King Bolete (Boletus barrowsii) or Boletus Edulis, or other?

I have a lot of Boletus in my 3 acres of Confirous Land in Mid-Florida. little to huge, orangish to brown, but these very light colored ones seem to be coming up more and more and I had ignored all of them until now. Bought a book and suspect they may be the edible 'White King Bolete' (Boletus barrowsii) and not Boletus Edulis. Can anyone confirm?

Mushroom Expert says that B. barrowsii is a westcoast species.
Not sure if that is true.

Tom Volk says the same thing. But not west coast. South west US to the west coast.
Check it.

These seem similar to a few Tylopilus species I've seen near pines around central Florida recently. Try comparing to Tylopilus felleus or Tylopilus rhoadsiae.

Compare Gyroporus subalbellus. I see what appears to be lemon yellow spores on the stem in the picture on the left, and faint pinkish-brown bruising on the pore surface of the one on the right. If the mature specimen has a stem base that's kind of squishy-hollow, that's it.

Did have a bitter taste, taking a spore print to confirm, but I think you guys are right it's likely a Tylophilus. Thanks!

I for one get a kick out of getting a correct ID and if someone beats me to it, I get my wind taken out a bit too. Feels good to get a correct ID. Almost as good as finding a mushroom you are looking for.

Yes, I've noticed how some users get competitive with ID requests. In a way I agree with you, it does feel nice to help someone!

Sorry didnt mean to steal anybodies thunder. I had the same speices growing under white pine and thought it to be a white king bolet until i made the worst tasting omlett anyone has ever eatin. One bite and in the trash. Dogs would'nt even eat it. So Thats how I knew what it was. I thought it unsusual for a Tylopilus to grow under pine.

Yeah, my first experience with Tylopilus was picking T. felleus thinking it was Boletus edulis and thankfully tasted it just in case before frying it up. So…fucking…nasty... T. rhoadsiae and G. subalbellus are fairly common Florida boletes, look similar, and the spore print of T. rhoadsiae is about the same color of the bruising on the pore surface of G. subalbellus. Gyroporus sp. has lemon yellow spores and a hollowish stem base when mature so they're pretty easy to identify in person.
That sucks balls though for the OP, if you have a bunch of delicious looking boletes that taste like butthole.
