Dried Mushrooms: still possible to grow mycelium?

Some supermarkets have these dried or canned mushrooms (like those dried Chinese "Mu-Err" mushrooms). Is it possible, once they are in their individual correct substrates, to grow again mycelium from them?

Canned mushrooms have been sterilized and contain no living tissue. As for dried, I've heard of successes but it's all thirdhand stories; hope someone here knows more.

I would imagine it would depend on what temperature they were dehydrated at. I have tried it a couple of times and never got it to work.

I have used dried mushrooms to get a frutiting culture before. Make a shit ton of plates though; very few, if any, will have good mycleium.

Same here, i've done it with dried mushrooms too. Heres how I did it, Under a flow hood or in a SA box, soak tiny <.5cm pieces of dried mushroom in 1.5% H202 solution for around 1 and a half minutes and then wash in sterile water and place in a testtube or container that is both air tight and contains little little air space. Make at least 8 of these samples and you should have 2-3 that have uncontaminated mycelium. It worked on oysters and shiitake for me.

Wow, interesting info. I never knew it was even remotely possible!
