At this point I'm not sure if people that I know are more surprised when I do like something or when I don't like something.

I don't necessarily like everything I listen to but I'm open to pretty much ever genre. I enjoy everything from orchestrated black metal to minimalist house to Japanese folk music to Lana Del Rey. Listening to one genre gets really boring in my opinon, I never really understand how someone can listen to only EDM or only metal for example, gotta get a taste of everything

Colleagues are usually surprised that I like Strapping Young Lad, but then again, they usually don't know me too well.

You know, with things like these, people tend to fall into one of two groups: one group doesn't know you at all and therefore isn't surprised anyway, and the other group knows you and therefore isn't surprised either.

The only thing I can think of is that my old high school mates that I haven't seen since high school will probably be surprised that I listen to rock music and play guitar because in high school I was probably one of the most anti-rock people on the planet and worshiped electronic music… and one of the first things I did when I left high school was pick up the guitar, funny how things can change

(yeah and I suppose anyone my age will probably be surprised that I can enjoy classical music too)

I'm kind of waiting until they release a hard drive that's like 10-20tb so I can back it up, and get another one that's about 5tb capacity so I can put it all on one hard drive (feeding off a couple at the moment) and fuck it's so all over the place in different folders and fucked up man my catalogueing is so shit. its shameful.

Yeah, I had two of those hooked up at the same time...plus extra hd installed in tower and 1tb that came with the rig...it was like the ultimate digital jukebox...like i owned a radio station but who cares?  Easy stuff everyone has it now.

Anyways theshit bricked on me. Took me like 4 hhds to figure out they don't like being in continuous use like that. Anyways. I'm too old to be dicking around like some:crankynoweed: music baron "I have 5 billion tracks!1 haha I win!!

Out of curiosity: what's the practical meaning of such a collection? I mean, especially if you keep adding at a substantial rate, you'll never be able to listen to it all, even once. So is it to accommodate an ever-changing taste, to be able to say "yeah I have that too somewhere, let me have a look", to suit the needs of anyone who visits you...?

Personally, I have a few Gb's of music, most of it ripped from the original cd's that I also own. I don't add much to that library, but I will listen frequently to new stuff that I find online or get pointed to by friends.

I gave up on trying to have a huge music collection because it seemed like every time I would rack up a large amount of music, my computer decided to die and I would lose it all in the process of having to reformat.

I had an external HD for it but then a tornado decided to blow over my house, tearing the roof off of my room and damaging my HD with water in the process. I have an iPod full of music plus my phone and extra SD card are almost completely full. I don't know, I just try not to get invested in it because I know it won't last forever and half the music I listen to is free anyway and can easily be re-downloaded.

Haha I don't think it actually touched down in our yard but it was jumping around the neighborhood and went right over our house, reeeally close. It uprooted probably 10-15 trees in our yard which was a huge mess. Tore the roof off my room plus damaged our garage. We were the only people in the neighborhood whose house was condemned. We had to move out for about 4-5 months while the house was being repaired.

Oh and I happened to be home alone and taking a shower when it all went down, and from the time I heard the rumbling freight train sound, I really only had time to turn the water off and duck down and it was on me. It only takes a few seconds. It was a very humbling experience to say the least. I thought I was about to die. Thank god it was only an EF 1.

And damn Bal that's crazy. So were you all wet and and naked lying in the bottom of the bath tub and the roof ripped off?

I was wet, naked, crouched down in the tub with conditioner still in my hair that I finally washed out several hours later after walking around with a towel around my head. The towel part was memorable to me because a news channel came by and asked me for a live interview and I think I took it off beforehand, but I still looked like shit on TV which I wasn't too thrilled about, despite all that had happened.

I'm just lucky I thought to lay my clean clothes out beforehand because after the tornado raped my room,  it was impossible to safely get to my dresser drawers. I would have been SOL.

I'm an amature DJ, so basically I like to have any track anyone would want me to play.

For me, I work away for long periods of time without internet access and I like having lots of music variety.

I also like playing through my itunes playlist and hearing new shit i've never heard before every day. i've got so many different genres ranging from old 30's calypso music, old wartime jazz from all over the world, music from every country, genre you could possibly imagine. so much awesome music, and you're never going to hear it listening to garbage commercial radio stations or even most 'indie/alternative' radio stations play the same rotation of music. i just like variety and exploring the musicof the world and having it at my fingertips is pretty decent. i love showing people new tunes theyve never thought to listen to like when you're at a party and everyones trolleyed and starts coming down but some wanker insists on playing high tempo techno music which can get agitating so you chill everyone the fuck out by putting on some weird old chilled out album from 1943 and everyones like "fuck yes this is just what i needed" and starts smoking doobies and drinking beers

I HATE anything popular.

4 years? damn,... good though, i guess they aren't as likely to break as i thought. i kinda worry about my HD breaking and me losing my shit, and then me "losing my shit" figuratively when i rip my hair out, if it happens...

i hope mine lasts 4 years... i'm get another HD soon, and fucking back up my shit; because im paranoid. :tinfoil:

Golf. I rarely get to play anymore, but it's always a great experience when I do. Something about the scenery, the beers, and the game always puts me in a great place. I'm a good golfer too, considering I only play once a year. I still shoot in the 90's
