This is a very hard answer to give, so I will do my best. LSD is not really a drug, but more of a tool. It's effects are so varied and a trip is never the same as one you had before, but there are some commonalities with the experience. A trip to everyone is a bit different too. It depends on your personality, openness, and how you see yourself. LSD is a material that should not be used by everyone. It is an enlightening, but also very challenging experience. LSD is long acting. As many will say, it is the granddaddy of psychedelics. It will open to you up to a world you have never seen. It will show you truths and illuminate the society and world you find yourself living in. Frequently, it is not uncommon to have insights that you are nothing but a big monkey, acting upon the best interests of yourself and acting to how other people want you to act. An LSD experience is one of the most lucid experiences you will ever have in your life. Everything is so clear and if you have questions, you may just be able to find them. This is what you can expect from a low-mid dose of LSD. The come up 0-1.5 hrs, is very happy and giddy. Everything is funny and you may find yourself thinking that you are a small child. It's a great playful experience. After 1 hr, you will definitely know that you are tripping. 1.5-4 hours in, that is when you will get a great visual experience. This is when I notice the visual changes. Everything is sharper, lights pronounced, new colours, and the rippling effects. Towards the end of the 3 hours in, the mind trip will really set in. For many, everybody around them can be easily psychoanalyzed and it becomes easy to visualize somebody else's life experience and their story of their life to that point. Mystical. Every small event or thought in your head can be easily torn apart and analyzed almost instantaneously. From hours ~3.5-6, that is when the head trip sets in and the visual changes are the most marked. Your thought processes are changed. LSD is like rocket fuel for your brain when it has been used to working with coal. Associations are made instantaneously. It can be hard to be around other people. In a manner, it is like fighting a battle with reality. There is no reality. It can be expected that everything feels very tough. It may not be easy to handle, but if you can fully sink into it and not fight where the trip is taking you, then it is amazing medicine. From hours 2-7, the effects will hit you in waves. One minute, it feels as if you are sober and a few seconds later, you will be nose deep in the trip, unable to speak. From hours 6-8, the visual effects gradually taper off. The head trip still persists. It is very tiring and it is easy to feel unsettled. At this point, it may be a good idea to smoke some cannabis(smoking on a peak is another story, if you do, prepare to be transported to hyperinnerspace and you may have difficulties verbally expressing yourself), drink some beer or kava kava, or just relax. You will most likely be very tired. If you have had some good LSD, then you are by no means slowing down here. A blotter of LSD can definitely last for 12+ hours.
The best place for LSD is in an environment with lots of stimulation. Music shows are wonderful. Even though it feels like you are dreaming with your eyes wide open, it will open you up to dancing like you have never imagined. If you have ever had any reservations about dancing, once your ego has dissolved away, you can dance to your fullest extent. Be yourself. Mushrooms are best for quiet, or low stimulus environments as their effects mostly vanish with lots of stimulus, but LSD thrives in environments with a medium amount of stimulation or lots. There is a reason why "ravers" are particularly fond of this material.
The first time you use LSD, it may be that your body has a reverse tolerance. It is not uncommon for people's first LSD experience to be ho-hum. The more LSD is used, the easier it is to fuller embrace and lose yourself in the trip. 2 hits your first trip may not feel like much, no visuals and a funny head. While 1 hit of the same blotter after you've tripped a couple of times with the substance can easily get you stronger visual and mental effects.
As stated previously, there are the downsides to the material. It will give you an amazing visual show, a gorgeous energy, and an upgraded brain-for the duration of the ride. However, once you use LSD, life is never quite the same. while it does not cause any brain damage, it definitely re-wires the ways which you perceive the world. Even though you may live the same life you always have, you will see it through a different pair of eyes. It simulates clinical schizophrenia. You see the world through many different eyes. It shows you can be anyone you want to be, all you do is be it. If used too much, or used too close to another LSD experience, it can make everyday life a bit strange to live in. You may want to drop out of society, lead a different life, not play into "the game". You may experience depersonalization as the experience sinks in. The key is to embrace the experience. Learn from the lessons it taught you can be a more open, gracious student of the world. LSD is an amazing animal because it will stick with you for your whole life. Don't expect to use it and move on. It's just not like drinking a lot of booze, getting hammered, having a good time, and passing out. It is not guaranteed to be a good time. It will show you truths and you must be able to accept them, otherwise, your life will be very hard as you fight these visions. It can show you that you can detach yourself from society if you would like, it's not hard. Previously stated, you can be anybody you want. You will not be the same person after the experience as you were before the experience. If you have any family history of mental illness, please do not use this substance. It has an ability to pull out bipolar disorder, psychosis, and schizophrenia better than any other substance. It is a little hard on your brain too and it can definitely slow you down in the long run. No one can debate that the old "acid head" with slow speech and frequently drops, "far out man" does not live with the residual effects of LSD into their old age. A lot of people who take large doses of LSD go "out there" and their baseline self never quite fully returns. It is a psychedelic. It will bring out who you are in the true inside. There is no hiding the true you. After your first trip, you will be come You 2.0. It truly is an amazing catalyst to tear away the bonds that society has slowly placed over you and have weighed down your psyche.
Depending on your experience, many people find that they have an amazing afterglow after the experience. This can commonly last for 2 weeks or more. A feeling of gratefulness and contentedness for their lives and the people involved with them.
DMT is the most visually stunning of the popular psychedelics today that is commonly available. When smoked, it is short acting, and a very strong experience. However, it can be hard to assimilate since so much happens in the 8 or so minutes you are traveling in. Assuming a ~50mg dose is imbibed, you can expect to see massive warping, breathing, fractals, fractioning of objects, and new perceived depths of perceptions. When you close your eyes, the most intricate geometrical patterning and places will be behind your eyes. No imagination necessary. Many experience meeting other life forms which speak to them. It is short, so it is very hard to assimilate, whereas a hefty dose of mushrooms will last 6-8 hours, and LSD 12-14. 8 minutes is an incredibly short amount of time to take this all in. You can commonly experience afterglows from DMT too. It can make you tired and a little anhedonic for short periods of time after use (a few days at most). A visually stunning experience and it feels as easy on the head as dreaming. Not nearly as strange as tripping on mushrooms or acid.
Just the fact that you are here on the shroomery, asking about the LSD and DMT experiences proves that you are most likely going to use these substances. Thank you for doing the research and be a being a responsible consumer. Just be true to yourself. Like I said, LSD isdefinitely not an animal for everybody, but please be true to yourself and always be exploring the other fascinating areas of life such as traveling, learning instruments, reading, making new friends, and being an open, loving person of the world.
Cheers, -Ricky
