Why
broke spine from seizures and ribs are always breaking. slipped and fell onto buckets of rock. my ribs keep re-breaking every time I try and lift something. it's getting really annoying.

tonight in Nodak it's -24f.

STUPID cold.
I had to install an engine heater on my car (i think there's a block heater cord on it somewhere...) as it was such hard starting in the morning.
Brutal cold. Windchill pushes down even more.

I hope at least a couple of your cacti survive! Get a friend to help you move them if any are salvageable. Wish I could send you ny lilikoi (passionfruit) vines. I don't have any space for them, so they're just crowding their pot.

This year has been unseasonably cold by about 20 degrees in like 80%, if not more, of the US. Florida being the exception.
I'm not a meteorologist by any means, but I've always been fascinated by weather. It's baffling to see the Jet Stream dip so low in North America this year. It's not like it's a cycle where it's been gradually getting colder over years. It just happened all at once.
My theory is that it has to do with a very slight decrease in ocean temperature in the Pacific this year which changes the weather over land dramatically. Especially west of the Mississippi river.

Honestly though I think it was worse last year, then again my memory sucks so maybe not. I think we're just used to it, I do laugh when I see people saying 60-70 degrees is cold
Not so much in this thread as I've only read the OP, but I seen others in the last week or so stating this and I just laugh at how good other people have it

The thing i hate worse about the cold weather are cold sores on my lips, fucking hate em. Then my lips get all chapped an shit, flakey skin its gross. Yeah friday night I'm sitting in my truck and lisening to the radio and they say it's colder then the north pole presently, wow great. It was ok though I got like 2.5 hours OT that night, worked till 4am (I work nightshift though, usually till 130am), good excuse to get some extra monies.
Which is also good because I got a 300$ fine the other week for running a red light that I need to pay off somehow

i've got nothing on any of you guys, but it's been cold here by my standards; which means it's been getting in to the low 30s (F). not quite freezing, but hovering just above it. for coastal southern california, that's pretty cold. normally my area is between 52F and 78F depending on the time of year. it's been rough getting out of class on tuesday and thursday at 11pm for the past couple weeks because no only has it been 39-40F, but it's been windy and i have to walk two miles home.
walking warms my core up, but by the time i get home i can't feel my fingers or toes.

When I lived in Montreal, there were a few times when I got home my eyelashes and nose hairs had frozen together.
Canada isn't really fit for human habitation.

Today was the warmest day this week at 15f -9.5 c
Been hovering around single digits and lows to -15 below in the night. Got a small amount of snow but with it being so cold roads are just ice.
Much more fun to drive in

everyone being people that will quit bitchin bout the economy pull up their roots and chase work wherever that leads. even if it's fly over country in a state that's colder than a well diggers ass in winter. cause there are a lot of people that leave their families at home and this can work for a time with the flexible schedules but I find eventually people will commit to one place or the other. Generally, that is not Nodak

Where I live in Minnesota the temperatures have been sub-zero every single day this week (except today).
A couple of days ago it was -10, in the middle of the day, and didn't even feel that cold.

Yeah when it's standing still it's not bad. But if you're underdressed and it's windy like it is here most of the time, it's fucking brutal.

Yikes.
Winter came early this year to South Florida, too.
I was complaining about hitting the upper 60°'s F (for the low) by next week. Usually that happens in January.

45 degrees is t-shirt weather here. It snowed last week and we're not going to see grass until late April.

We're now having a thundericestorm. It's 29° and we're having a thunderstorm where the rain is freezing solid to the ground. Ha. We're fucked.

After I looked up the conversion between -4F to C In Canada it's like that for 1/2 of the year and it sometimes even goes down to -45F

I woke up once to find a mouse nibbling on my ear lobe. Lol
The lights are flickering now I think we're gonna lose power. It's going to be close, it is raining hard but the temp is getting close to going above freezing.

I just saw the chick on MSNBC who's reporting on the snow storm is at the grocery store up the street. I guess it's snowing. I haven't looked outside yet.
8:30 AM and nobody has driven down the road since it started snowing.

I guess the DC area looks for any reason not to goto work
The snow storm we got last week left about an inch of ice on the roads.
Salt doesnt work when the high is lower then 10

How much snow? Doesn't look more then 2-3 inches.
We got 7-10 inches and school wasn't even canceled.( most fell while the school was open)
About 2 hours away they got 2 feet.
