Seriously weird looking

I think it's weird looking, anyway. I'm hoping for an edible because that would be super cool.

Habitat: Western Maryland, in the mountains. Found with several others, growing from a dead hardwood log (possibly oak). I applaud its tenacity as it's fucking freezing outside. In fact, I was out there declaring my victory and attempting to pry it off, but was having a hard time because it was frozen.
Gills/Cap:

Decurrent, decently spaced. The cap is weirdly scalloped, not so much ruffled. It's pretty large, maybe 5-6" wide. The flesh is normal, sort of like an oyster when it thawed, only thicker.
Stem: Solid, short/not really there, about the same texture as the rest of it.
Spore print color: I'm working on a spore print, but I'm guessing it'll be creamy colored.
Bruising: None
Other information: It has a sweet, anise-like smell.
Maybe Lentinellus sp? I'm not great with bracket-type fungus.
