My second grow, with updates

I ordered a mystery syringe, so I don't which strain ill be getting until it gets here, which it should be here this monday. Im not using my big monotub yet,im saving that for my next grow. Right now I just want to use these plastic containers. I poked some holes on top of the lids and one on each side for fresh air exchange.
Ive never used anything but a grow bag before. But I think I know what im doing, I was going to mix peat moss and vermiculite with a little bit of water as my bottom layer of the casing then break up the colonized cakes and put it on top of the bottom layer then just sprinkle dry vermiculite as the top layer.
Ill update again after the jars start colonizing more.Im inoculating more than one jar though that was just one of them.

dude, if you have a pressure cooker move on to grains like birdseed and ditch the PF cakes.
also, casing PF cakes on top and bottom might be a waste of time/effort

I don't have a pressure cooker, so what should I do with after it fully colonizes? Don't case it?

Casing on top can't hurt. But I don't think casing helps much with cubes? someone correct me if i'm wrong.
You can fruit just fine without a casing layer. assuming your fruiting chamber is properly humid and whatnot

casing cubes is really just a personal preference based on what works for you/what you are comfortable with. i've always cased my trays and will continue for sake of "if it isn't broke don't fix it". the extra moisture content certainly can't hurt. but then again 14 years ago when i first moved away from the pf tek and started experimenting with trays a casing was considered to be standard. as a beginner though, i highly suggest keeping everything as simple as possible. so maybe a casing is something you want to play around with later on in your endeavors.

Thanks I'll just clean the plastic trays and just put aluminum foil or just a paper towl or something in the container and put the cake on it and let it fruit. I'll wait to try casing at a later time then.

If you want a layer on the bottom, some plastic, like a cut up garbage bag would probably work better.
paper tower might just get colonized, or worse, rot.

A update on my jars. Three out of five of my jars that I have introduced spores too have shown signs of colonization. The two strains that I used for this was Texas something but I forgot the last part of the name. So lets just call this the T strain and I also used the Z strain. Ill update again when my jars either contaminate, stall, fruit early or when my one hundread percent colonized cakes are transferred to the fruiting chamber. Im not using the container that I put in my first post since its too small to fruit out of im using something else.
T strain Jar 1 left side

right side

Z strain Jar 2 left side

right side

bottom

Z strain Jar 3 left side

right side

bottom

Jars 3 is my baby, im estimating it will finish in 2 weeks or less.. hopefully. The bottom is already almost finished.

It might be one of mine too, it seems like a fast colonizer. Its been faster then all the other strains that ive worked with.

This is jar 2-z strain. Jar 1 is lagging behind and jar 3 is at the same place jar 2 is in.The bottom and the sides are colonized all the way except for that little part. I don't know if the jars need to colonize the top part since its just dry vermiculite. How long do you think I should I wait to try to transfer them to my fruiting chamber?

I decided to not wait till the 8th. I transferred the cakes last night into a ziplock bag and used those two cameras to keep the bag flat and in place so it wouldn't fall over. I already see white balls forming all over the cakes so Im guessing their hyphal knots.

I only have three mushrooms growing right now, but I have pin heads all over the cakes that havnt grown yet.
On the other side of the cakes that are facing my window, I have these liquid looking bubbles. I don't think its liquid cause if it was it would of just ran down the cakes. Their the shape of pin heads though. Im not sure what they are.
Jar 1 fruited early for some reason it doesn't look contaminated at all.

Only a few mushrooms are growing, i thought i would of had alot more than what i have now. I kept the bags zipped all the way in hopes of raising humidity levels. Do you think i should unzip the bags slightly to let air in?

I think you shoulda rolled them in verm if you wanted to leave them as cakes. If you were going to crush'em up and put'em in a tray, i wouldn't layer them with sub, i would just mix it all up together. Case if you feel like it.
This is not based on any personal experience, just what i've read and would do myself.
Good luck man

Well its probably too late now to do that with this grow. I think if i did that now i would just be crushing up potential mushrooms.

Honestly, from what I have read. If I were you.
I'd pick any pins. Maybe transfer them to agar or eat em if they're safe.
Dunk those cakes again.
Roll them in verm.
Put em in a SGFC.
Give em 12/12 light cycle. Mist & fan twice daily.
Watch the cakes grow properly.

..don't listen to this guy. OP was right, this would harm your fruiting potential.
The fungus would waste a ton of energy recovering from being broken up. Especially since it has already fruited.

my bad. I figured the loss of the micro climate was the worst of the evils. I stand corrected.
edit: ...broken up? I did not tell him to break them up...only to roll them in verm after the first flush was over, because they're naked.

Im probably going to harvest these Tuesday morning. Then im going to duck and roll. I see some pins growing but I think the pins will be ok if I do that. The last pics that ill post on this thread will just be the combined amount of this first flush and the second one.

I wouldn't harvest them till the veils are about to break, or just break. You can harvest them as they're ready....you don't have to pluck the whole cake. SOme just cut the caps off the mature ones while the immature ones finish, then take them all.
Normally, you don't roll them in verm after the first flush, but because you have no verm on them now..i would. You only have to roll them once, so if on your next grow, you roll them after the 24hr dunk, you don't have to do it again. One roll in verm is fine.
Putting verm on a BRF cake is like putting on a winter jacket when you go out in the winter....it just makes you feel better, and keeps you happy

Thanks ill keep this and everyone elses advice and suggestions that posted in this thread in mind for my next grow. Hopefully it will be a more successful one since im getting more experience. And i might just eat the first flush before the second one finishes cause i don't want too wait that long to trip.So i hope i have enough to feel some effect.
