The silly, goofy side of tripping

I've always loved how tripping brings out my silly side. Going back to when I was 16 years old, tripping for the first times, I always spent a large part of my trip in a "silly" mindset. Laughing, making goofy sounds, saying goofy things. Thinking of serious people and serious things and realizing how silly and goofy they really are. Going into the bathroom and looking in the mirror and thinking - who is this clown, and what kind of stunt is he planning with that devilish grin? Stuck in there making funny faces and laughing uncontrollably.
One time in the college dorm I tripped with about 5-6 others. We were sitting on the beds trying to smoke weed and a Neil Young song game on. I imitated his high voice by singing "I am Neil Young and I have no testicles" - we all laughed so hard we couldn't breathe. It must have been ten minutes before we, as a group, got our composure back. My joke wasn't even really that funny - but at the moment it was the most hilarious thing ever said in the history of saying things.
Do you go into a silly, goofy mindset when you trip? Why does this happen? Do you consider this an important part of tripping? If laughing is good for your mental health, and tripping makes you laugh hard and long at just about everything, then logically, tripping must be extremely beneficial. I don't think I've ever heard someone make this case, but it seems like a good one to make.

Only one time did i laugh uncontrollably while tripping, that was when i was eating a strawberry and it crunched really loud and I thought it was an apple which made me break down laughing....apart from that, 100% super serious and mind fucking. I think staring off into space with a confused look on my face is the most common expression.

Depends on my setting and dosage. If I do get silly then it's on the come up usually on LSD. Mushrooms, I've yet to get silly on.

Everything is heightened on a trip, so yeah I find that fits of laughter can be common

Sometimes when life just feels like a cosmic joke and you begin to see all the simple connections and the funny side to everything, it's why bother take anything seriously.
I love the mirror when I'm tripping, too. I can understand why a lot of people don't, but I've always found mirrors incredibly fun, on shrooms, especially. I can do a wicked Stephen Hawking impression now.
Other times it's laying on the floor on your face, watching the patterns in the rug swirl and dance as you become lost in thought and it feels like the most serious, introspective moment of your life.
Other times, it's sitting on a hillside at dawn in a strong wind with a cup of tea and a packet of cigarettes as you gaze at the sky with a big stupid grin on your face while you come down, thinking back on all the madness and feeling one with everything.

Back around 1979 - '80 - '81 , my friends would come over on friday or sat night and we'd drop our acid around 8pm, and by the time 11:30 roled around, our trips would be leveling off with still a couple hours to go. Saturday Night live was awesome.. back when the show was still funny. Even better was the show "Fridays", which was just like SNL but much stranger. I remember watching that show and feeling like it was made for people who were tripping. It was just too stange.. Kramer from Sinefeld was one of the regulars along with Larry David, with his huge funny looking bald headed afro. If laughing adds years, I added decades to my life watching that show.

Yes, attend a burn and you will see a whole bunch of adults being totally silly on drugs. It is kind of the most liberating thing ever. It's probably one of my favorite aspects of a good trip. I feel so connected to the fact that none of my problems matter and i get to just be goofy and have a good time like i'm a little kid again

It depends how much i take. The higher the does the more serious the trip, at least for me. When i use Psilocybin in smaller amounts i tend to laugh alot. Usually uncontrollably at times to.

Sometimes everything can be incredibly funny. I've laughed at my own face in the mirror a fair bit, sort of like looking at a strange type of monkey thinking 'that thing is just so ridiculous how does it even work... and what's with that ridiculous nose it just looks so impractical'. Dancing 'like a jellyfish' to Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.... finding everything a drunk friend said to be just about the most hilarious statement ever... Usually the hilarity was at the start of a trip, or towards the end, often accompanying a strong sense of relief. The other side of it is less fun, of course. I once found a small piece of lettuce to be the single most loathsome thing in all of existence... the most seriously distressing vegetable I have yet to encounter.

That's it right there. It's like you're 3 years old, playing with your friend in the sand box. You giggle at nonsense and you bond from the shared experience. If you really examine it, those are the best moments of our lives. Being with another person, tripping, and laughing your asses off - it's one of the best things in life.

Eating mushrooms often will bring me back to feeling like a small child. It's wonderful. I have had the best realizations when I am at live shows that are packed with other people. It's wonderful to have the realization that these people have their responsibilities and their "adult" duties on the outside world, but we have all gotten together to listen to some awesome music, drop all our stress and have a good time, basically revert to our mindstates that we lived in when we were between the ages of 4-10 years old.

I've only had the uncontrollable laughs once with mushrooms. I was laying down in darkness from mid come-up to the peak. I turn on the lights to go to the restroom and everything is warping and the color hues are different. I'm stumbling down the hall way and laughing at how different and strange reality is for the moment.

I agree. It just seems to reveal a part of our nature that we work daily to suppress. That part of us that got beat out of us while we grew up and became "responsible"

I love this thread!
Tripping has always brought out the little kid in me, like others have said. It reminds me how beautiful and joyous our life on this Earth should be, and how so many people take it way too seriously. Don't get me wrong, there is definitely a time for being serious, but there are too many people who can't laugh and take a joke
LSD and psilocybin have both reminded me how important it is to have that part of child mentality; Being able to look at the simple beauty of things we normally take for granted is an amazing and invigorating feeling. Everything always feels so fresh and new to me, and this wonder at the universe carried on to manifest itself in my sober everyday life. My friend and I always say how the meaning of life is to live. If we don't enjoy the time in the physical world, it will be difficult to get by and still see how fun life can be!
