Had you been opening the mono's up to take the colonizing pics? That might be your source of green.

I don't agree. Mine are exposed the elements much longer in their dunk than hers would be for colonizing shots.

In your dunk? As in after they're fully colonized?

Remember to isolate on agar for best stable results, else contam is always a real risk
after flush, clone a piece of the stem of a shroom onto agar plate
then isolate away from possible contams and you got a monoculture quickly
then transfer into a LC culture and use syringe to innoc first jar each time, before G2G good way of storing the culture, can be stored as isolate for years it seems you could also just keep making jars of course :-) never run out, just keep doing G2G all the time PC before bed, G2G in the morning
if you do it right(cloning/isolation) you will get a better yield than MS usually, and perhaps even more potent shrooms/more stable potency between flushes
I hope to try WBS+G2G + wormcasting/coir one day :-) that will be quite the feast, they might grow through the mono
+ wormcastings can be found at any garden center the only issue might be pH maybe...
else compost should also be very good, maybe better than coir

Sorry about the vague pronoun reference. Yes, I dunk my grains in an open pot after they're colonized.

Not only were these tubs done with sterilized coir and verm, but I opened them several times to check their progress. Spawn runs are not a sterile process. Got a couple more just like em almost ready.

I never said spawn runs are a sterile process, but you're removing co2 and introducing further outside spores which can take hold of an uncolonized substrate.

Well that's different. Fully colonized spawn is contaminant resistent. A half colonized mono is different. I'd still say it's contaminant resistent, but you're certainly opening a window for competitors by opening them up when they're not ready to fruit.

Just because it works for you doesn't mean it's a good idea. I've done a lot of things in the past that have worked that I would not recommend others follow just because it worked for me.

I don't think you fully grasp the bulk spawning concept. The reason we use pasteurized bulk substrate is so we can spawn in open air.
If you spawned your tub in open air you can be sure plenty of foreign spores got in there during the process. Opening the tub every now and then to take a peek is not going to increase the risk for contamination. If you used clean fully colonized spawn and pastureized substrate then you have nothing to worry about

Fact of the matter is that opening for a quick peek is not going to dissipate your CO2 unless you sit there fanning it out. I suspect that even if you did that it would just build up again quick enough and not hurt a thing. As for your implication that your introducing competitors, are you implying that you didn't introduce a few million when you spawned it in open air? Trust me they are still there.
Sorry to derail the thread OP. My request for a top down pic still stands

this is highly unlikely, just because you expose your colonizing substrate to air doesnt mean it instantly can get trich etc.
its usually bad spawn, or improper pasteurization
anyway congrats those look wonderful, go get yourself a bottle.

Pastywhyte said: Its because of the ratings weighting system. Only people who have either given very few ratings or all 0 shroom ratings can actually give a five. If you gave 100 0 ratings your five shroom rating would be worth a lot. Conversely there is at least one mod who gave out so many 5 shroom ratings that a zero from them would be worth -10.
