Centrino Benefits?
    #1920711 - 09/16/03 04:54 AM (20 years, 7 months ago)

I just got this puppy today:
SONY PCG-Z1RA

It's 1.5 GHz Centrino... I've heard that a 1.5 GHz Centrino is equivalent to a 2.4 or something P4. Is that true? Comments?

What a sexy looking laptop, I am not sure how exactly the Centrinos stack up to older/higher clock CPUs myself.

Look here, http://www.theinquirer.net/?page=7 for some very opinionated articles about Centrino.

And do yourself a favor, rip those ugly stickers off

http://www.intel.com/products/benchmarks/notebook/index.htm
check it out...  It appears that the centrino does perform/ out perform chips with higher Hz.

NICE notebook!  I'm thinking of getting a centrino based notebook.  still looking around for a good deal though

Saved myself $725!

I haven't read anything about it, but even if gigahertz were equivalent, your notebook will be slower than a desktop made with comparable parts. Notebooks run on batteries and the parts in your notebook are designed to be less power hungry. So a labtop hard drive will always be slower than a desktop hard drive.

yes but can you zip your laptop and components into your backpack

and

with the centrino being faster than a higher GHz processor I think that a equivalent desktop could be slower than the notebook.  they make harddrives for them that rev up to7200 RPM

The only issue i have with the notebook is, upgradability.  With a desktop, its just snap snap..  A notebook complicates things and makes for a less expandable system in all.  but hell they are so cool!  and @ approx. 5 lbs..  you cant beat it for portability

Intel didn't think it appropriate to provide timely Linux drivers for that integrated "ProSet" chipset. It's a shame too because I know several people, myself included, who passed Centrino machines over for a Linux supported laptop. I've heard rumors that there is working kernel support available now.
