Colonizing Bulk and Fruiting. A few questions
    #19239669 - 12/07/13 06:28 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Hi everyone!
I'm on my first grow and have a few questions that I was hoping for help with.

Thus far: Inoculated 12 BRF/Verm jars, 4 survived to 100% (Great learning process). Spawned to hpoo/straw trays @ aprx 2:1, covered trays and put in FC w/OUT FAE. 4 days later trays are 90-95% colonized. I uncovered trays and added FAE + Light + slight temp drop.

*Initial concern... Realizing I jumped the gun and started fruiting early.

1) Colonization; Should I re-cover the trays after 24hrs in FC or let them go?
-I have read on this forum that (a)Fruiting conditions will foul colonization.  (b) Colonization will continue in FC until the myc is ready. Any thoughts?

*About reproduction... I currently have the two mostly colonized trays in above described condition. I want to start another set of jars while (IF) these are fruiting.

2) Can I simply take a few chunks of myc from these trays and use it to colonize some new jars or tubs?

*Does using myc for colonizing save time by foregoing spore germination? Or is it equal based on time for disturbed myc to recover and spread?

My only expectation for my first grow is to learn but I would really like to try another round without ordering spores.

Thanks to everyone!  This site rocks!

1: no just keep it fruiting.

2: no because that piece of myc has been out in the open air.
you need aseptic conditions for your inoculant.
use agar or a syringe.

yes it will save time, (skipping the spore germination part) but look into g2g or agar work in stead. the myc is filthy at this point.
