Do you think you can have more than one career?
Maybe not something that demands all your time like being a surgeon might take but what about owning an online e-commerce business and also having a band or something like that..... I wonder if people do gigs like that now... I know having more than one job seems fairly common these days for some people, I've definetely heard people doing that.

Well since my rap career hasn't really popped yet, I've been finishing up my HVAC degree in applied science.

I was thinking about stock trading the other day. There's money to be made if you know what you're doing and do your research. It would be a week end thing if I choose to indulge.

Both. But primarily short term in order to see a quick profit return and stabilize my financials.

Start your own business, spend a day out of a week working on it. If things go well, make it your primary job, if not maybe move on to something else.
I'm surprised nobody said anything about selling something on the side

When I pay down on my loans, and go back to school, yes. I will move out of the financial sector and get back into what I love, evolutionary genetics.

Get a band, learn a bunch of songs and do cover gigs. Usually venues pay $500-$600 for a cover band to play for a few hours. Not bad for a bit of extra cash.

That's not bad, with 4-5 people it comes out to a bit less per person but if it's something like 2-4 hours that still beats a $15-$20 an hour job. If only I had been gifted with a singing voice - being able to play solo gigs sounds like it would be fun too. Ultimately if I ever got into music career wise I would want to be doing original tunes pretty much maybe with a few cool covers thrown in there.

What books/websites are you reading on this topic? I am reading online investing for dummies. Also, I thought investments are for after paying off debts and having a emergency fund? Otherwise any gains from investments have to bigger than 25% because that's what the credit card companies charge. Also, the average for investments sit at about 10% - 15% for moderately risk investments. Any higher returns would come from high risk investments i.e. funding the next Microsoft or Apple

I dont remember so correct me if I am wrong but if you buy stock and sell within one year then you are going to be taxed at your tax rate but if you hold onto the stock for longer than one year than the tax rate is 0% if in the bottom 2 tax brackets or 15% if above that.

Also, inflation has been about 2% this year but is sitting at 1% at the moment.

I think it also has to do with what tax bracket you're currently in.
