Someone linked this video to me today, it deals with the day to day grind and mediocrity and how we can lose our gumption in a sea of apathy.
And how we may choose to overcome the tedium.
Made me think of you guys

i dont really see what hes saying, he seems to provide no actual advice just that other people are can be worse of than you and life doesnt revolve around you... I already knew that and doing so doesnt make life any better.

Yeah, the video is fucked. It's basically a back patting for all the kids and parents who spent their good money at this "prestigious college" where the guy is speaking; where they all get to "really learn how to think". He goes on to remind them all that "Thinking is freedom". Arbeit macht frei!
All the crap he says about routines is only true if you get suckered or forced into the 9-5 M-F routine. Get a better schedule. Maybe if more people pressed for alternate schedules people wouldn't still all be on the freeways and at the grocery store at the same goddamn times celebrating the hundred year old Henry Ford work week.
He says boredom is part of the daily life routine but that's only true if you spend your free time in a consumer consciousness. If these people are so good at thinking how could they ever be bored? Try something out. Anyone who says they're bored should be laughed at. Infinite amount of things to potentially do in this short life.
As far as "choosing" goes, call it what you will, people do the only thing the could happen in any moment given their disposition and the momentums of previous moments. If you want to congratulate yourself for your own machinations of causality and pin a free will choice badge on your shirt because you're so impressed by how well you learned how to think I call that fucked.
Of course I could be completely wrong, please let me know if you think so. It would be interesting to be convinced that people actually ever do anything other than exactly what they think is the best move at any given moment. I would also ask you to give your definition of free will.
