Calloused Bridgesii?

Hey all so I've gotten around 16 inches of bridgesii. Only thing is that it's already calloused as my friend has had it for a while (cut and dried). I was planning on consuming it this weekend, but I want to make sure it's ok to consume as long as I cut off the already calloused end(maybe 2-3 inches) and try planting that small section!
By the way I plan on consuming it like so: 1. Freeze and thaw for 30 minutes 2. Despine and peel waxy skin off 3. Cut into stars 4. Chew around the core and eat it raw(after letting it sit in my mouth) OR place stars in a dehydrator 5. (After dehydrating) make all stars into powder 6. Mix powder with drink of choice
Any thoughts?
P.S. Can't I just use regular cactus mix found in gardening stores and just stick my already calloused bridgesii in there?

So my guy from LA hooked it up, but I'm also worried about the brown dark spots...should I just cut around that area? Can use a reply as he's had this ready for almost 2-3 weeks and I'm worried it's going to rot.

Umm shit, wish I could say 100%. I dunno much about cacti, I grew some a while back (just normal) and I remember when one died and got gross it looked a little like that. You could try cutting around it maybe? Take a look at the inside and use your judgement?

If the spots are soft, I'd cut out whatever is rotten and soft. The top bits look like what happened to a cutting of mine when I just pulled the pups off rather than cutting them neatly, though I could be wrong. If the spots don't seem to be soft or anything, the cutting should be fine to last much longer than a few weeks without rotting. If you plan on rooting the cutting, a 3 inch cutting may take a while to root. I'd suggest just planting it and buying another cutting if you really want to trip now, but that's just because I feel trying to get your own supply going is a good idea. Good luck with whatever you choose to do, and I hope you have a great trip!
