shitaki/maitaki mycelium

hey, does anyone have any pics, or macro description of shitaki/maitaki mycelium? I cloned from a grocery store (I know not a great practice, just an experiment), six plates of each kind, 5 of each plates con tamed, but I got some growth from one plate of each. The maitaki is growing really slow, in fact I thought it had stalled or just not worked, but the myc is JUST started to edge onto the agar (MEA). the shitaki was very whispy, but not like cobweb. I should have taken a picture before transferring, I took the outer edge of 4 sides and put onto new plates last night, and the search engine is bringing me to grow posts (which I will need soon I hope), not really mycelium agar posts. TMC describes shitaki as "Rhizo to Linear" but no entry for maitaki.

Shiitake 75 isn't slow, but that's the only strain I've grown. I also use an incubator so maybe my results aren't typical

Your results aren't typical; most people won't pay to run an incubater to speed up colonization by a couple of days. Warm = faster metabolism; cold = slower metabolism. Shiitake is average speed (strain dependent), cubes are generally fast (also strain dependent), and maitake is slow as hell, LOL.

It also seems to be weak and more prone to contamination than many other species, at least IME.

Yah, I run an incubator for making tempeh so I might as well use it for mushrooms too. Especially since my house temp runs about 65 this time of year

I have a tub in tub incubator, it fits my a weeks worth of tempeh and 100 small petri dishes, or 2 large grow bags. I use it for tempeh when I need to, then it put whatever in it that I want to jump start, usually clones, slow Petris, etc.
