Looking for any information on Liquid Growth Mediums for mycelium. Specificaly any successful recipes out there for Dried Malt Extract (DME)?
Did a search. "Mix 4% (by weight) malt extract powder with distilled water. This comes out to 1 around tablespoon malt extract per cup of water"?? 1.....2...........3...........boring.... Is that a rounded Tablespoon? lol
yeh 4% (by weight) of my arse is ummm??? Quote:

uuuhhhhhh....
What's your question? I have almost every media recipie here (malt extract would call for dextrose, too) but they're all by wieght. Since malt extract would be pretty hydgroscopic (sp?) there's no way to translate it to a Tbsp., etc., except on a rough estimate. If you want, dissolve a known amount of malt extract (wieght should be on the package) into a liter of water and now you have that many grams/Litre. You'll have to use this really soon, though, or it'll get contaminated (unless you freeze it.)

Or my answer, use just about anything that people use in liquid media, but add it to water to make a 4% solution by weight.
ME, honey, dextrose, karo, whatever. 4% works. It's simple.

Math is confusing. My question is, What would the exact measurement/ratio of DME to H20 be? bigger than the tbsp recipe that's offered. or more scientifically, what would be the specific gravity (H20 is 1.00) of the sugar content of the liquid need to be?
micro post whatcha got? what's 4% of a gallon of H20 by weight? anyone? anyone?

Gallons require math, liters don't.
40 grams in a liter (1000 grams) is 4%.
BTW, I prefer dextrose over ME as it yields a perfectly crystal clear solution making colonization and contamination readily evident.
