I went and bought it on my lunch break. I've only scratched the surface, but...
Track 7, "The Outsider" really sticks out in my mind. Great stuff.

got it. Very interesting mix of moods.
I love the first track, immediately it's obvious how key it was getting 'twiggy'.

Brilliant. I love it more than the last album. Mer de Noms was OK, for me, but this sticks out a bit more. Noose is definitely my fav too.

Well I dug up an old gift certifikate with a coffe stain on it and got the cd. Overall, I think the Thirteenth Step is about the loss of a loved one, but in two meanings, The death of a loved one, and the loss of the mother of his son (possably because of a personality or behavior differance between them). This also plays through in Mer De Noms (track 5). There is also a spiritual or loving side to some of their songs (as in dealing with relationships, both friends and lovers). The H topic also got me thinking, but I was just wondering if anyone else sees it all in a familliar light. I heard it while stoned and I got a better feel of it than I did sober. At first I thought it wasn't as great as I thought it would be, but later it started to grow on me. Some songs are kinda wierd for me- I didn't like Vanishing or The Nurse, but I really enjoyed Gravity, and the Outsider. Also, I was wondering if Maynard was married. I don't think he is, but I donno.

I'm pretty sure he's not. But, going along with your theory, both Billy and Maynard lost a parent this summer...

I love it. My favorites right now are The Noose, Blue, and The Nurse Who Loved Me. I love how they didn't just regurgitate another Mer De Noms, its totally different and chill.

Track #5: Vanishing
something about that bassline.. that whole middle section with no words. reminds me of 'Another Brick in the wall part 1'... has a very dreamy spacey nostalgic feel to it.

I wasn't really that excited about this album, but damn was I ever surprised once I heard it! Excellent material! This one is going to be on my playlist for a while. Noose has to be the next single.

I'm in love with this cd, Every Track. Especially love the lyrics of The Noose, and my favorite songs are The Nurse Who Loved Me and Pet. Purely fantastic.
Buying AEnima and Thirteenth Step = the best money you'll spend in 2 months.
