Would you kill someone?
    #19234288 - 12/05/13 10:25 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

What if you 100% could get away with it. What if the person you were going to kill was really bad?

Could you do it?

Yes.

Do I get to devise my own method?

I will only do it with a sword. In combat. That would be brutal.

If I wanted to kill someone and 100% get away with it I'd have joined the US military and bombed a villiage of women and children. I don't need those kind of kicks. :ass:

100%?
I'd try it out.
I'd probably use a scalpel and nick a major artery. I'd want Singin' in the Rain playing in the background...
I'd picture it as in a kitchen, or maybe a living room... some place home like. I'd disable them with a temporary Neuromuscular-blocking drug and talk to them like a friend, ignoring their pleas for mercy.
I'd talk about how excited I was to get to know them, and about all the things I learned while stalking them.
I'd tell them how I thought their family would react (He'd be a stable, office type with a pretty wife, two young girls, say 8 and 10)
I'd feel a little apprehension sweep over me knowing once's he is gone I'd lose such a good friend...
I'd put a montage of pictures and videos of his life up on a screen is his field of vision then I'd slowly get out my scalpel...
I'd nick his left carotid artery.
He'd bleed out as his children laughed on the screen and I'd feel an overwhelming emptyness knowing Harry is gone forever (his name would be harry, by the way.)
I'd soon cheer up though.
I can't stay sad for long.
I need to clean up my mess I mad while playing.
And there are plenty of new friends to make.

Anyone could and would. It's funny how anyone acts like they wouldn't in a life or death situation. Sorry but your instincts are for survival and if you had to you would.

If it was kill or be killed, hell yeah! Or to protect loved ones from harm. I wouldn't murder for hire or kill any innocent non violent or non threatening people though. Murdering and killing are two different things

Well of course.  I don't think that was the spirit of the question though.  I understand it as in cold blood.

no, it goes against what i believe is right. it is not my place to decide whether someone else lives or dies unless i am in extreme danger, and even then it is still a waste of life.

I was more like thinking something like in the movie "The Purge". Cold blood or not.

I don't think I could take another persons life ever, even if it came down to me or him, unless they were bad. But I haven't been in that situation yet, and it's hard to judge.

No one should want to kill. I think having the desire to kill someone is disgusting. life is sacred and should only be taken on the field of battle and in your bed at old age. Death comes for us all in the end.
No need to hasten it for any man.  :rasta:

to every one who said no.

1st. if you were in a life or death situation would you not kill someone to protect your own life?

2nd.

so if someone brutally raped your mother, beat her, made her suffer for days and through her into a ditch to slowly die (or the closest person to you) you wouldent kill them?

personally the next few and final days of there life would consist of so much pain until they finally passed out from it and woken back up to be repeated until they suffered a slow agonizing death (from like drinking antifreeze or something)

(look up death from antifreeze)

Mr sensitive since you were part of the Iraqi invasion force huh?

You should know first hand how the Iraqi genocide went down. A friend of mine was also there as an infantry lieutenant, and unlike you didn't get hit from an IED...

They'd collect people up anyone remotely suspected of being from the wrong faction and hand them over to the Iraqi police. The next morning those people would be in a pile of dead bodies they dumped and the media wrote it off as "sectarian fighting". US soldiers didn't do the actual killing, you just delivered them to the killers and pretended you didn't do it. And he led men doing that every day.

Yeah, people can pretend their hands are clean but they are bloody, at least as bloody as any flyboy that bombs a villiage of women and children from 15,000 feet or drone operator who shoots a missle into a wedding. But I'm not supposed to talk about that, like the media doesn't.

Just because your friend saw it, doesn't mean it is happening on a large scale.

The drones are fucked up though.  And even the conservative estamites of civilian deaths are pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

I do think that there are a few people out of the many who hold this world together with what little wit and brute force they got, probably a few of them are in the US military.  Most of them are overambitious and alittle unstable, like the rest of the population unfortunately.

I'm no killer though.  I could but I wouldn't if I can avoid it.

Lol "went" down... Like it's still not happening... like 23 people didn't die today from it.

Oh wait...

Thursday 5 December: 23 killed

Baghdad: 9 by gunfire, IEDs.
Mosul: 9 by gunfire, IEDs.
Kirkuk: 4 more killed in attack on intelligence building.
Qara-Tepeh: 1 by IED.

December casualties so far: 191 civilians killed.

It did happen on a large scale, its history now, complete with mass graves and everything. I've heard lots of stories like that one with lots of details. Another thing I didn't approve of that he did was they'd give candy to children with the idea they wouldn't be attacked if they were right next to native children, using the kids as a human shield. These are the kinds of things you only hear when you have very close friends who served over there, they don't talk about it except with each other or very intimate friends.

Not particularly sensitive but I call it how I see it. I'm not denying the fact that fucked up shit happens in war's, it's not isolated to any one. However you make it sound like its perfectly acceptable and that there won't ever be consequences. Sure people get away with it, but the vast majority of people that go overseas don't do things like that, and if you do, you're ass is going to get hammered. Just because you're in the military doesn't give you a license to do whatever the fuck you want. I know every combat incident we had there was all sorts of investigation shit to make sure nothing illegal was going on..

Like I said though, if everyone in your chain of command is fucked up then you could probably get away with it depending on the military intelligence section assigned to your area.

I know from my personal experience that that shit wouldn't fly.. At least not where I was at. Not to mention that the guys I was around (even when I was moved to different companies) weren't the type of people to do that kind of shit, and if you did I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you were the one that got the bullet.

I know quite a few people that went on 2-3+ tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq and never saw anything remotely close to what you're talking about.

If you or anyone did that shit around me, I would shoot you myself.

I got news for all you I couldn't kill anyone for any reason people, there is a killer beast in all humans. Its there and you can't get rid of it because it is as much a part of you as any of your organs. Hopfully you never have to see its ugly face, because the face you see will be your own.

LordSenate, they were following orders. They pick people up and turned them over to Iraqi police. Those very same people would be that night's victims of sectarian violence found in the morning in the pile of dumped bodies. If it makes a difference my friend's unit was classified as "special forces capable" but was not actually special forces. I wonder if that kind of work was compartmentalized to that type of unit. It was all under orders and well covered up, as the media at least has never even reported that activity. Although it is official US policy to engage in "rendition" which is picking people up and turning them over to others who specialize in torture/murder. I'm glad you didn't have to diectly participate in that kind of work, it changes you, for the worse.

You do know you aren't supposed to follow orders that are immoral, or are "illegal" ? Although the term illegal is a grey area in a war zone but still.

I suppose the Iraqi police could do that kind of stuff once prisoners are turned over but there really isn't much recourse... Let them go and kill people (potentially) or turn them in.. That's a difficult decision to make.

We usually kept are detainees ourselves. We had a little jail like area and they were treated as well as they could be. I had to do guard duty with them tons of times but you can't be too nice or they will ask for your shit on all the time so you have to be respectful but stern.

Yeah having to torture or murder people would fuck someone (does fuck people up).. I'm really glad I didn't have to deal with any of that. I wasn't disagreeing with you that those things happen. I was just trying to say that from multiple deployments and all the people I met throughout my service, I only ran into one person that was of questionable character. Everyone else had their issues, sure. But they were good people.

But yeah, you aren't required to follow orders that are unethical or immoral. Of course if your whole chain of command is telling you to do it and you have no one to turn to in sight to protect you when you disobey them, then its kind of a moot point. But I still think as a whole the military is not what people make it out to be.. Not to that extreme anyway.

Also I don't know about how it would change being in special forces.. But they certainly live by a different set of rules.. Walking around with no helmet or bullet proof vest on, all sorts of shit.

Military discipline and effectiveness is built on the foundation of obedience to orders. Recruits are taught to obey, immediately and without question, orders from their superiors, right from day-one of boot camp.

Military members who fail to obey the lawful orders of their superiors risk serious consequences. Article 90 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) makes it a crime for a military member to WILLFULLY disobey a superior commissioned officer. Article 91 makes it a crime to WILLFULLY disobey a superior Noncommissioned or Warrant Officer. Article 92 makes it a crime to disobey any lawful order (the disobedience does not have to be "willful" under this article).

In fact, under Article 90, during times of war, a military member who willfully disobeys a superior commissioned officer can be sentenced to death.

Seems like pretty good motivation to obey any order you're given, right? Nope. These articles require the obedience of LAWFUL orders. An order which is unlawful not only does not need to be obeyed, but obeying such an order can result in criminal prosecution of the one who obeys it. Military courts have long held that military members are accountable for their actions even while following orders -- if the order was illegal.

"I was only following orders," has been unsuccessfully used as a legal defense in hundreds of cases (probably most notably by Nazi leaders at the Nuremberg tribunals following World War II). The defense didn't work for them, nor has it worked in hundreds of cases since.

What would determine as illegal? I'm sure illegal orders are given and soldiers comply with them because they trust the word of the officer and are to scared to disobey.

Immoral might be a better word... Just, wrong would work fine. If you feel something's not right with what you're doing then it might be best to assess the situation.

As pasted above, saying you were just following orders won't stop you from getting hammered if shit rolls down hill. Its been proven countless times.

That being said, you are correct in that you should be scared to disobey.. The catch 22 is that if you follow an "illegal" order, you could potentially get fucked legally.. Then again if you are in the thick of it with your  unit and an officer tells you to do something, and you don't.. They can kill you on the spot. So it's a difficult situation to imagine.

I'd try it out.
I'd probably use a scalpel and nick a major artery. I'd want Singin'  the Rain playing in the background...

Now that's fucked up..

Life or death though? Yeah, probably. Not sure if I could stomach some of the ruthless shit the governor does in the walking dead ... But u never know till your in that situation.

This is another one of them questions that I don't think you can really answer truthfully if you've never been in the situation...

I know I could, almost did it once... I tripped a few days before so I took my gun apart as a precautionary measure, I was putting it back together to murder my brother-in-law, but I couldn't find the slide block, which is an essential piece...

If it wasn't for the shroomery teaching me how to grow mushrooms I'd be in prison for another ~23 years, so thanks for that.

Sure would. Who wouldn't given the right scenario. One that comes right to mind is fighting for your life. If you had to kill someone to survive, you probably would. Or like if you raped my girlfriend or killed/touched my kids. I'd stick needles deep under your fingernails and crack your face with a bottle until your jaw bone is clogging your esophagus.

Only under extreme measures though. I'm harmless. I hate to even fight. Am built for it but it jus usually never solves anything other then who's a better fighter.

If you want to feel that rush, go kill yourself. The problem with that pleasure is you can't go back. Killing is forever. It's not like you can say, "oh, I didn't like that, I'll just not do it again". (well you could say that), but it's not going to change the fact that the person you just killed is still dead.

Also, I think about this on a daily basis; what about ALL of the people that have been wrongly killed that could have done something incredible for the human race? Magically-delicious and famously-awesome people don't grow on trees, and it would be a shame to kill them unknowingly without giving them a chance to shine.

Wouldn't you be curious what it feels like?
The rush of adrenalin as you slowly liberate a soul from its physical form?

In the past I had enough anger, and little enough sense, and held grudges. Back then I would've said yes.

Now I will say absolutely not. I would not kill just because I knew I could get away with it. Killing someone has to be about one of the worst things I can think of.

I would only kill someone in self defense of my own life or that of my family or friends. And only if their life was in imminent danger and there was no other option. And I'm sure it would then haunt me for the rest of my life. I wouldn't regret saving any of above mentioned lives, but I would regret that I had to take a life to do it.

lulz I was gonna stay in character for the thread but yall are taking me a lil too seriously.
I'm just acting as a psychopath.
I'd probably never kill anyone. Maybe in a self defense situation, but I wouldn't seek it out.
Not even for Harry.

i think if i killed someone it would either go one of two ways, i'd either be horrified by it and have a complete mental breakdown/lose my mind over waht i had done, or the complete opposite, i would not care about it or get over it and start killing more people

What about killing someone really evil? Like Hitler, or someone else really bad? Like a mass murderer?

What if a relative was really evil, could you kill them?

If I wanted to kill someone and 100% get away with it I'd have joined the US military and bombed a villiage of women and children. I don't need those kind of kicks. :ass:

Yeah... Go ahead and try that and see what happens.

This is why war must be solemn business.. Its not natural to kill another human. people go mad when they see the things war brings. And that madness only feeds the blood shed. A perpetual loop of destruction. Ive seen it. And the look in their eyes terrifies me.
Life is sacred hold tight to it.

No issue with it.      You guys were talking about handing over prisoners to iraqi police and army, yep it happened.  We used to make a run every other day from mosul to bagdad and sometimes tikrit with a bunch of fuckers strapped to the floor of my plane. We called it the hangmans run cause they all got hung or fucked up once the got turned over.
We had to put plastic down the whole cargo compartment cause they would shit and piss themselves cause of our combat landings and takeoffs. I felt sorry for them the first time but then I had a Aero medical run and saw some buddies all fucked up. After that I never did feel sorry again. I would laugh at them that they were gonna die, good ridence. C130 if u could make it fit we would haul it.

Not to mention the religious and civil unrest between the Sunni and Shia. oh and lets put one of the worlds most prized resource here so EVERYONE gets involved..  Its a fuckin mess and we put our big dumb butt right in the middle.
