Moving on from weed.. 3

Some background.. I've been smoking weed for 5 years, 3.5 of those years I toked just about every day. The first year of smoking was pretty scattered. This past 6 months I've been smoking as much as 4-5 times a week and have gone as little as not a single time in 2 weeks. The reasons for not smoking vary, but that's exactly what I'm noticing - more and more reasons to not smoke or not enjoy my high when I do smoke. Every time I REALLY want to get high I will be fine and have fun, but I've noticed that overwhelming want to smoke coming up only once a week average. Otherwise, when I only sort of want to smoke or feel obliged to match with a friend or something like that, I see myself having a not-so-good time quite often.
Some examples: A day after tripping on 3 hits of LSD I smoked a joint. I immediately felt trippy. Not just a little bit trippy - I felt like I was peaking on the L again.. Didn't smoke for a week as a result. Same thing happened again the day after 2 grams mushrooms 2 weeks later - didn't smoke for another week.
I could no longer smoke and do any school related work. I'm getting worse and worse at socializing when I'm high. I notice myself becoming easy annoyed sometimes when I'm high. I over think EVERYTHING.
I'm realizing that I should only smoke the times where I want to do nothing more than get baked, however rare that urge comes up. Weed can no longer mesh with most activities in my life as it used to.. I used to be be able to have weed for reading, school, parties, etc. Now I'm realizing I could only toke when the main goal is to be high, not to do something while high.
I don't think I'll ever completely stop smoking weed, but it's going to be far less involved in my life than it once was. I love weed unconditionally, I just know that I need some space from it..
Just wanted to post this to see if others could relate or whatever.

uh, yeah. i've tried explaining this to people and they look at me like i'm crazy. i say that after tripping acid a few times, now when i smoke weed i can see how its can be classified a psychedelic. tripping opened my perception more to what weed can do.

Yeah, and I guess like a psychedelic I require a good set and setting.. When I notice flaws I could have a "bad trip"

I think after tripping a lot you notice the shift in consciousness much more easily from weed. Maybe just smoke less amounts or regain your tolerance.

To gain tolerance I'd have to smoke daily which I absolutely couldn't do anymore, not a chance. I'll rethink it this summer, but at college I'm always doing something

What annoys me with weed is that it lasts too long. I've noticed this more since I started driving, it can be days since the last time I smoked and I'll still feel off. This is with smoking tiny tiny amounts too.

I think I'm around the same age as you, OZA, and I'm noticing the same things. I went to a show week or two ago after smoking and did not enjoy myself one bit. In the past I'd be blazed for everything from taking a shower to doing homework to riding my bike, but recently pot just doesn't mesh with what I want to do. I feel totally disconnected from everything around me and helpless in any attempt at meaningful interaction with people. It's not that I don't enjoy being baked, in fact I've got a batch of potent cookies in the fridge, it's more that I can't enjoy it in the same ways as I used to. And yeah, it's odd trying to explain this to friends who haven't been there.

When I first started smoking I wanted to get as high as I possibly could. That gets old pretty fast though, I smoke most days now, but far less than I did. Just a couple small hits to get a little buzzed. Being high everyday is too much for me now.
Also when I get stoned I usually get a sort of weed hangover, extra tired even after sleeping a full night, groggy, pissy ZERO motivation to do anything, stomach hurts, headache.
I mostly smoke as a habit now. I enjoy the act of smoking a lot even without the high.

I can very much relate
I had a crazy acid trip once that lasted for a whole week, smoking has not been the same since then, and it is just like you say when I smoked even though I didn't really want to I usually would not have a good time. Overthink everything, get super paranoid, a friend could be giving me a compliment and I'd be like: "This guy is talking shit to me right now"
It used to be super unbearable, to the point that I wouldn't even want to be around people or do anything when I'm high. However, I've kept going back because of my stubbornness, refusing to be defeated by paranoia. Over time I've been able to get over it by realizing that when a paranoid thought comes I can just let it go, it isn't as significant as it seems at the time cause I'm high. However, then I realized that I just don't enjoy weed that much anymore. A good weed experience for me now is basically "not freaking out". So I quit completely a couple of months ago. I don't have to smoke
Really it's a bullshit reason to smoke if you "feel obligated to". We're just bullshitting ourselves when we feel that way cause it is your body not someone else's. Nobody can make you do anything.
Anyway I feel a lot better without smoking.....It just isn't something I enjoy like I used to or want to do anymore.
Nothing scary about living without it

Ever since my last mushroom trip over three years ago (my god it's been long..) weed has effected me much more intensely. I still smoke weekly but nowhere near like I used to because it can be unpleasant at times. I'm pretty stoned after one hit

It's just odd, from the age that I could think for myself and really since I started becoming myself/growing up I have ALWAYS smoked, and all of a sudden the urge is gone a majority of the time. I'm literally only going to smoke those times where I REALLY want to. If that never happens again I'll never smoke again, simple as that. I don't think that time will ever come but we'll see.

Quitted since one year after 7 or more years of hard toking, even if sometime, like when Im tripping, Id like to have one or twelve joints.
Just consider one thing: I love how much I dream now, and how much I remember about it. And Im having lovely dreams too, like air swimming, pseudo flying, swimming underwater like a fish would and many others. Maybe I should get some sports done lol

Same exact thing here unless I'm drinking. Then I blaze like a chimney..but I gave up drinking again for a while.
Ever since I've had GAD which is close to 6 years now, smoking just kind of makes me a hermit. I don't want to see anyone, and get all anxious about being in public. It's really weird considering when I was in my teens and early 20's it was the complete opposite, and was high every waking second while still being very productive.
I have a couple friends that are also in the same situation nowadays. I think it has to do with certain brain chemistry changes that happen to certain people in their early to mid 20's. I wish I could still smoke, be productive, and social but it seems those days are over.
It's time to eat some kratom, and smoke a couple tiny hits.
OZA. I've never had the had psychedelic effects from weed in reference to what you were saying. I've heard a lot of people here talk about it tho. No need to quit weed. I still have a profound love for the cannabis plant, it's just not an essential part of my life any longer.
Oh, and I smoked daily, all day, for over 6 years before the whole GAD situation.

After a short while without smoking, or even just cutting down to very small amounts once in a while, it just becomes something you don't think about anymore.
I wish you the best of luck. It feels like you're losing a close friend when you quit smoking. Time heals all wounds as I said tho.

a word of advice I have for you is don't look back at what you're leaving behind, look ahead at all you're going to gain. we all have to make choices sometimes, in going after something we usually have to give something else up, focusing on what you're losing will just make you miserable and take energy away from what you're trying to accomplish.
and of course like everyone said you don't have to quit right away.... I'd say start by cutting down on your dosages then it won't completely paralyze you
good luck

Everyone sounds like they are just getting too high. Easy solution is to smoke less (smaller bowls). Added bonus is your weed will last a lot longer.
If you're sensitive to weed, capitalize on it. With good weed a fat matchead sized chunk of bud broken down and vaped gives a pleasant uplifting but not overwhelming high.

I found this almost impossible to do myself. Every time I'd buy an eight I'd go.....ok this is gonna last me a week.... I'll only smoke a bowl or two a day........a day later it's gone.
It sounds good when I'm coherent, but after I get high for the first time my self control flies out the window. Seems like I can only smoke too much.
It's really more about the act of smoking, even when I've smoked so much that it doesn't even get me high anymore, I'd still smoke because I like the act of smoking/passing a pipe around.

Agreed, really for me it was the most fun before I got busted for the first time. I had a really fun time getting blazed as hell and trying to act straight around my parents and other adults. Then after I got busted it lost that element so it wasn't as much fun anymore, I still liked it but not as much. Kinda like underage drinking is more fun than after you turn 21.

A big part of it is being paranoid about being even slightly impaired since I'm a fairly new driver. Cannabinoids definitely can stay in the body for quite a while though. When I used to smoke larger amounts all the time, I basically just forgot what it was like to be totally sober.

I'm right there with you on this. Used to go through an ounce a week with a couple of friends and nowadays it amazes me how long I can make a sack last. The last time I picked up an oz was months ago and I still have well over 3/4 oz left.
I used to wake up and the very first thought that popped into my head was "take shower, visit friends, get blazed with them." Now I wake up without any urge to smoke at all and it's only on the rare occasion I'll find myself really wanting to toke up. I think it's all just part of getting older and having more things to occupy my time with besides getting wasted on various drugs. I still can't imagine myself quitting entirely but my use has definitely become a once in a blue moon type deal compared to how frequently I used in the past.
