God I love coir. Does anyone know the flip side though? Like, could you under pasteurize coir and get away with it too?

I don't think so. Not because of contams however but because the act of pasteurizing or sterilizing breaks the coir down, making the nutes easier to digest.

Tub 1

Can't wait to see SBJ's tests
I like... sounds much more convenient too

For me at the moment it is. My big ass sterilizer allows me to prep my sub without setting foot in the kitchen, which keeps my wife happy I will still do proper pasteurization for any poo or straw subs that I do, but at the moment I just do those for pans. All my cubes are on simple coir/verm, and thus far none of the tubs I have tried this with have led me astray. The jury is still out but, it looks like I'm gettin off like OJ

Well the first flush is in for the first tub. Feets are a little fuzzy but overall it looks not bad such a little tub

Tub two is close behind

Three and four are starting too look pretty decent as well. Won't be long for them now either

Thanks guys. 1 down and I'm thinkin that if I can get a minimum of two in the can with these subs I can (at least for myself) consider this an acceptible (and much easier) practice going forward. Its not as easy as my bucket, but its definitely not a pain.
I am eager to see Spitballs results with this.

I got 6qt spawn ready to go. One is for G2g, the other 5 are for spawn.
I don't care about loss in the least, so I will CERTAINLY follow this procedure with the other 5 jars...
Im interested to see where the rabbit hole goes......
Like others posted...it is easier to not watch a thermometer ever 15 min, than to simply "sterilize" the mass.
coir is interesting. Old school users cased with it, new school users bulk with it. It is a very dynamic substance that requires a bit of practice to get perfect......Sterilizing anything is ex-pz.
Ill be back with my results/opinions of spawning grain to a sterile substrate.

Please do. The more people who post there results the more we can be sure of the practice as a whole.
Turns out that the way my second tub was looking it was gonna need to be harvested first thing in the morning or I was gonna come home to a sporesplosion. Well I ain't about to do either of those things so I harvested just now.

That's 2 down.

I got twelve bags coming up, maybe I'll sterilize the next four bricks I prep. That seems like fun.
