Helping With Id's Please
    #1919056 - 09/15/03 05:48 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

Found this in the mulch bed around the Jack and the box order menu in the drive through I smelt manure they had just added to the mulch.
Its mostly brown but looks like it was once orange perhaps badly dried out. To dry to get prints...

Underneath shot of a Possible Pan. Sub.? Found it near a badly decomposed log with alot of these other shrooms its dark purple underneath in the gill area. Spore Sprint is purple to a brownish tint. (maybe dirt lol).

Same shroom from the side view.

Top view of another similar shroom i found close by. Its a dark gray with bluish purple tint like the other. Prints on these are light purple.

Under side of that Shroom.

Found a few of these There dark brown with darker brown nipples kinda like cubes but darker on the outside instead of the cream white like a cube. spore print is a light brown.

Underside Pic of that Shroom.

Now this was a neat find along the side of a log I cut the bark so there still attatched I have many more pieces with more of the same.
Was like 20 in all. There lighter orange to darker orange nipple. I found a real big one not far away that had a real slimy cap. I was thinking possibly Laughing Gyms but they are kinda small... Whatcha think. Spore prints on these are like a light orange.

Definately not pans. I'm thinking some sort of psathyrella but I have no clue.

That first one looks pretty unidentifiable, at least past my version of the identify-by-date.

The second set look in the photos like Coprinus of some sort, but purplish spores would suggest that they are probably Psathyrellas. Did you actually make a spore print on white paper to verify the spore color?

The third set are pretty tough to tell from those photos. Does it have a ring on the stem?

With the fourth set, is the cap sticky or slimy (when moist)? Is there a ring on the stem? I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "light brown" - is that lighter or darker than cinnamon? Brown is a color for which you need to compare to a common thing (like cinnamon or chocolate, for example). Possibilities are Pholiota and Galerina (and several similar genera).

The last ones are way too small for Gymnopilus spectabilis. If they have a slimy cap, then they are probably Pholiotas. Gymnopilus species typically have a dry, silky looking cap, grow on wood, and are overall a rusty orange brown color.

Those photos are fuzzy enough to make any attempts at identification from them difficult. All that stuff above is basically wild guesses based on what you've told and shown us.

Happy mushrooming!

man get some better pics and and some description if you really want it id'ed. that first one i thought coprinus because of the small closed cap. otherwise we need more info. the last ones could be gymnopilus sp., or something else. not Gymnopilus spectabilis for sure as toxic said.
