Quitting weed completly vs. moderating usage

Has anyone ever went from being a daily smoker to moderating? Or is it an all or nothing kind of deal? I'm talking about the few of us who were truly abusing the plant.
Me personally I found weed made my unhappy life happy again. It showed me life from a happier perspective, and that carried over into my sober life for a little while. After a year of smoking daily though I found I was just getting anxious after smoking, and would feel really burnt out the following day. I would smoke again to alleviate this feeling, and the cycle continues to this day 3 years later.
Now when I stop smoking I am still my lazy self with all the same problems, now I'm just not as burnt and better able to deal with them. I am on day 3 of not smoking and really wanna go out and buy a bag, but I woke up today feeling happy for the first time in a long time.
Is it possible to moderate my smoking? Or should I keep this non-smoking streak going? I expected to smoke again in the future but in a much more moderated way, like the way I drink beer. I don't drink much, but when I do I usually buy some nice micro-brews and maybe have one or two on nights I decide to drink, more if the mood is right but I could always take em or leave em.

Also I should add that I always get to this point where I'm feeling sort of better, but realize I have a lot of work to do still. From my perspective now I can't see a reason why I can't work on myself while smoking in moderation, but the burnt out feeling (the weed hangover) is really debilitating for me: Depression, anxiety, laziness- all stuff that makes me just want to smoke again...

It's up to you.
I could give you advice but really people are so different. Just do what you think is best.

Smoking pretty moderatetly I have found that weed gives me an afterglow more than a hangover, along with the immediate positive effects of the stone. I'm happier than not smoking at all.

That's the thing, I'm just not really sure anymore.
My "goal" if you will is to live a full life, to be able to do all the stuff I want to do. The problem is not weed, but my anxieties and laziness which hold me back. I know now the only true way to beat anxiety is to face your fears head on, to just do what you want to do anyway even though you might feel terrified during it. I noticed I feel less anxious the more I expose myself to those fears. Eventually I don't feel anxious at all.
So I ask myself "why can't I do this while smoking weed once in a while?" After all, living a full life means doing what I love, and that means smoking pot occasionally. It's just that smoking interferes with all the other shit I want to be. It makes me burnt, anxious and lazy.
I want to get better at mma and sex, I want to land get a job with my degree, I want to be a good son/brother/boyfriend/friend/future father. I want to take advantage of my creative writing skills (don't judge my writing by my posts haha!) I want to learn how to surf, shoot a gun, brew my own beer ect..ect...
But right now I seem stuck in a rut, and that rut is perpetuated by all this dope I'm smoking. I want weed to be a part of my life, but just a MUCH smaller part, you know? How do I do this?

You seem to be full of ambition and that's awesome.
I think you need to take a break. Pot doesn't seem to give you the positivity that you seek from it anymore and so your only solution is to quit for at least several months.
The way you speak it's as if your dependence of the drug is making you feel like you're not in control.
There will be a time when you can joyfully light a blunt again but now I think your only solution is to quit for a while...
This is just like any other habit. Sometimes an habit takes over your life in some ways and the only way you can regain control is to stop whatever you are doing. If you love having that habit then you can always go back to it but not until you can control it.

yeah, I think that's the way it's gonna have to be. I'm thinking this winter-break will be a good time to clear my head and start cultivating some good habits.
I did it with video-games way back in the day, I can do it with weed too!
But I did consciously tell myself not to play video-games for a while. Then life took over. T'was a good thing afterall, and I still love video-games in moderation.

lol, its all or nothing, or you wont see real progress, i think the trick is to realize how miniscule it could be to your life if you allow it to be. be who you want to be and stand besides it. n take necessary precautions to not relapse for awhile, like saying fuck u to certain friends, n finding sober new ones after you've healed. or just having good wilpower which is rare when around others who smoke and are addicted

Put it this way, if there is no NEED for you to moderate, then don't. It's different for everybody, and if it works for you, then it works, if you know what I mean.

Taking 3-6 months straight sober every couple years really makes drug experiences more meaningful for me, and is also the experience of many of those I love. Some of them rarely indulge after they have cleaned up... although most will always be heads, hard to take experiences away I really recommend it if you have been using regularly and can break without disrupting your life. I have taken breaks about 4 times in the last ten years, including currently. I started using weed/psychs because of the magic, then it would become a habbit... took a break and the magic came back, and I was able to integrate both my using and sober life experiences into a new perspective... I think people call it "getting old" laffs.
